Is there any KML editor available? I mean one of the kind as WSIWYG html editors.

Free XML editors, which will open KML files, are available. "Peters XML Editor" and "Cooktop" are available at Tucows. Give them a try.

Surely Google Earth itself is the ultimate WYSIWYG KML editor...?

I prefer jEdit with the XML plugin. It is open source.
The problem with editing KML source code is, that are neither DTD nor XML-Schema available.
It seems that KML is beeing developed "bottom up".

KML can't be WYSIWYG since its data not layout, but Notepad++ is a wonderfull little free editor, which can do syntax highlighting for XML and many other langauges. *AND* you can "fold" paragraphs so they don't take up space.

For what it's worth, when I need to quickly hand-author KML, I almost always do it in Notepad++ (or my own tweaked version). Great little app. More complex files are usually authored in jEdit.

OpenOffice.org also has good support for authoring XML documents.

I created a free KML Editor and released it March 1, 2007. Unfortunately it is only for Windows 2000, XP and Vista. http://www.northgates.ca/kmleditor/

Couldn't find a way to import kml files into the editor.... Is there any? Or do I have to start the kml allways from scratch?

anyway, nice app!

Using KML Editor, I get frequently:

"Application Level Errors: Value was either too large or to small for Int32".

I assume, this occurs due to my gernan Windows version, were decimal values (as used for the coordinates) are expressed with comma instead of decimal points (e.g. 50,8766543 versus 50.8766543).

I saw, that a similar problem was reported from a french user. I have the problem also with your bugfix from March 4.

Regards
Claus

Thanks for pointing the comma instead of dot problem. I couldn't see anything wrong with the code. I will look into this as soon as possible.

It may take a few days but upon starting KML Editor, the popup board will notify you (and everyone else) of an available update.

It is standard problem to developers.
Maybe this problem fixed by KMLeditor team.
I have experience with this problem.
http://xbbster.googlepages.com/superoverlay
http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/651515
We check this with US, UK, FR, ES, Deutsch, Sweden, Dutch, Russian, Chinese... Very chaotic results by culture After all fix we have problems "comma vs point." It is problem of Win32 (Net) enviroment + KML. GE (KML) know ONLY points.

Recommendations:
Note: The software requires decimal separator to be "." (point). If your system is set for "," (comma), you need to change this setting. Open Control Panel > Regional settings > ...

It is my experience only, not absolute fine results.

Hi WilloxH,

There's a new Google Group for discussing problems with the client that aren't KML related:

http://groups.google.com/group/earth-pro/topics

You're much more likely to get the right answer there.

Thanks,
ManoM
