Hey fellow pilots and aviation enthusiasts --

I have been looking for a good way to get VOR/NDB/Airport and other aviation data into Google Earth/KML format and I think I have made a good first step.

Using this (extremely helpful) website, I produced a KMZ file of VOR/NDB/Airport data for North America -- http://www.navaid.com/GPX/

My KMZ archive of this data can be downloaded here:
US Aviation KMZ Data

This produces a helpful and manageably-sized dataset that can be used in Google Earth, but some future enhancements that would be great include:

- Inclusion of frequencies, airport data, runway lengths, etc
- Visual depiction of airspace and ADIZ boundaries in GE

Anyway, I hadn't seen something like this out there, and thought some of you might enjoy playing with this data set. Would appreciate seeing what else others have done on this subject.

Am looking forward to the day when I can do a full visualization of flights using GE, including airspace depictions, before ever leaving the ground!

Regards,
Dave

Dave, I guess there aren't a lot of pilots reading things in here. This is a neat dataset. It would be easier to use if someone would set it up on a server and use a View-Based Query on a network link. Then you would only have to load the placemarks for the area you were interested in viewing.

I'm going to be collecting a library of useful GE resources for pilots and putting it in my reference section at the Google Earth Blog. This will be included in the collection.

This is very cool. I've been writing a program to convert Jeppesen FliteStar Flight Plans to GE and AnywhereMap, and this may be good for supplemental data.. Thanks for the info..

Does anyone have an airway database KMZ? mainly US/canada/mexico

How about SIDs/STARs?

I've compiled some of the posts from this forum as well as weather overlays into wx/vors overlay KMZ.
