Placemark Icon URLs

I am working on my first KML file, which will map a large number of
locations within a relatively small area. I would like to use a small
placemark such as a simple red or blue dot, but I cannot figure out
how to obtain the URLs for Google's placemark icons. I've read that
they're easily accessible through Google Earth, but I can't install
that software on my PC (I'm working with Google Maps). Can someone
please help me find the URL for a small placemark icon?

For a simple circle, try this: http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/shapes/placemark_circle.png
and set the scale to something small (0.5 maybe)
