Can this be done with KML?

I'm trying to find a better way of capturing travels in GE Plus. Playing a Tour gives me the slow speed I usually want, but the downside is unwanted hopping and long pauses at placemarks (especially the first). Touring a Path avoids the hopping but is far too fast (a minimum of about 110 mph), and is also often difficult to set up in hilly terrain.

One manual approach I sometimes use is to drag the mouse to start movement in a direction of my choice, and keep changing direction when necessary. I'm not a KML expert, so this may be an ingenuous question, but can I automate that somehow using KML please?

None of the experts here with any thoughts on this please?

Hello Terry,

No, I don't think this is possible to configure in the KML (in this version of the KML anyway - maybe someone can confirm this) - the speed and altitude of the tour are controlled by preferences in the application itself (Tools > Options , or similar - I don't have access to GE right now), misleadingly under driving directions I think.

It's a shame beacause it would be very useful to override this and specify what other users see when they go on your tour - I have a few fly-throughs and some of them are very long indeed. At default speeds they can take a very long time.

Simon.

Thanks Simon. I'm coming to the conclusion you're right, and there's no way to do this.

Re speed, my issue is normally the opposite of yours! For a PATH tour, as I mentioned, you cannot get below about 110 mph (176 kph). That may be fine for flying, but not for following a walk, cycle, boat or a balloon path!

Maybe this would be an example of a good new feature for a future release of GE/KML, eh Google people?

Terry_Pinnell,

The Google Earth Pro Version is capable of creating movies from a tour in Google Earth. I don't know that much about it because I use the Plus Version. Look here for more information. The pro version is $400 (USD) and an additional $200 (USD) for the Movie Maker Application.

Hope this helps.

p.s. This is probably a lot more than you or I would be willing to pay.
