I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the Google Earth
group...

I am constructing a KML output for an API, using custom icons for
placemarks. All is going fine, except that some of the icons
(seemingly randomly) are not visible. Even when I remove the custom
icon styles and use Google Earth default icons, this is the case.

The KML:

If I go to the "Places" panel in Google Earth and right-click on one
of the 'invisible' placemarks, then click 'Properties', the icon
miraculously shows up - until I close the 'Properties' dialog and it
disappears again.

Is this simply a bug in Google Earth or is it a problem with my KML?
The KML contains around 500 placemarks that are clustered around 25
actual locations - that is, each location contains a number of
placemark items. Could this be causing the issue?

I am using the latest GE (v 4.2.0205.5730).

Hi premasagar,

I can't find any icons that are invisible. I assume you're not
referring to the clustering that happens when there are more than one
Placemark in roughly the same location? In that case, if you click on
one, it gives you a star pattern of icons.

Thanks ManoM.
That's interesting. Makes me think it's a GE bug.

The star clustering works fine for me, but only on a few of the
locations.
I think that the feed may have displayed fine when I first tried - but
became unpredictable when I viewed it later. I may try uninstalling
and reinstalling GE.

Is it always the same Placemarks that don't appear? Can you tell me
which ones so I can see if they appear in mine?

Well - for example, the very first placemark in the side-panel:
"Diary: Journey's end" doesn't appear.

Hmmm... I uninstalled, then reinstalled GE. Still the same.
The only location that is being displayed at the moment is the first
location (i.e. the earliest recorded posts): Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Hi premasagar,

I think I see the problem. You have a TimeStamp on each of your
Placemarks. They'll only show up when the time slider is played or
expanded.

If you want more information about time in KML, check out this
article:

Doh!
You are entirely correct... that is indeed the issue. Too much data
led to too little visibility!

Thanks a lot. I appreciate your help, ManoM.
