I just read that Google Maps will read GMZ files as long as you can enter a URL for them in the search field. None of my URLs work and I've tried hosting them on several different servers. I think it has something to do with the MIME settings on the server but I don't know much about that and I couldn't change them if I did (not my server). I'm hoping I can link to this one just to test. Does anyone know how to reliably host GMZ files (besides attaching them to a post on this board)?

maps.google.com with KMZ linked

Well, it works using KMZs hosted on this board. Now I just have to figure out how to host them elsewhere.

1. Remember that you need the http:// at the start
2. Capitalisation must be correct
3. It only shows the first 65 placemarks in a kml file.
4. It often chokes on a file if the syntax is incorrect, even for some files GE can cope with.
5. It is only a subset of kml that Maps understands. For example placemarks and closed polygons are OK some other types it won't display.
6. I believe it won't display placemarks in deeply nested folders.
7. What''s a "G"MZ file?
8. I wish I could get maps to show more placemarks or at least to try and declutter rather than ditch them!
