Sorry for posting this in the KML section, but it's probably the best suited location anyways.

I have a request for making it possible to load of background imaging not only on a timedelay / stopped moving basis, but to further enhance the experience by enabling developers to dynamically stream images (preferably by tiles or some similiar measure). I'd also like to see the possibility of supplying a custom elevation grid, as we have data that have a far greater resolution in certain areas - that we would like publish on the Google Earth platform.

Both of these issues could hopefully be integrated as KML-features, or if the binary API (for the DLLs) is published, as an even more integrated part of the application.

Last, I'll just chip in and say thank you for sharing this application with the rest of the world, and for making it so easy to extend the information also provided. Google Earth / Keyhole is a fantastic platform for content providers and developers, and greatly increases the understanding of spatial relationships without the need for large development efforts. Thanks!

- streaming dynamic images
I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I think our recent VBR overlay data for Katrina may meet your needs. We don't offer the sample code for that, but the mechanism is relatively easy to implement.

- loading your own terrain data
Right now, there is no way to do that. Terrain isn't expressable in KML. Maybe in the future, but I can't promise a schedule. If you buy our enterprise Fusion/Server product and publish your own database, then Fusion can definitely take in higher-res terrain (we have many customers doing this already).

I realize that free clients can not connect to Enterprise Servers, but is there some reference available as to who is using the ES? I would love to hear some feedback on just how well the implementation works and what potential pitfalls are. Is there a separate board ES issues are discussed on?

This sounds good, but we would need to allow the "general public" to be able to see the enhanced data. We're a university college experimenting with open GIS and open data, hopefully making it possible for the average citizen to be able to see - and download - high quality geodata for their community.

I'll look into the VBR source, and looking forward to seeing some documentation for that later!

Thank you for your answer!

EDIT:

Just had a look at the VBR, and it's the same as we're already doing. It would be great to be able to NOT show that horrible LOADING-image, and be able to reload depending on eye height above sealevel - that way we could fetch the images while the user is zooming in, instead of having to wait for the user to stop navigating. Thats part of the great user experience with the viewer!

That's currently not going to work with the Enterprise Server as only Enterprise Clients (EC) can connect to it, and there is no floating license for ECs. Meaning each EC is licensed separately.

The EarthSLOT project is something that may work for you, http://www.earthslot.org. They can ingest your data and you can access it for free from anywhere you like.
