Hello my fellow KML developers:

I was wondering if someone might know how to get a complete list of
images under http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/shapes/.

Someone suggested to google on google mapfiles and shapes to get a
list of kml files and then I could pick them off of there. But I
would really like a web page that references all the different icons.

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,

We don't publish such a page.

As mentioned Google dont publish such a page,

but this page is available for the old icons:
http://econym.googlepages.com/geicons.htm

Google did mention the list to also power this page:
http://www.visual-case.it/cgi-bin/vc/GMapsIcons.pl

Also look in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth\res\shapes
(or where-ever you installed GE)
as this appears to be a local copy of said folder.

>From experience Google appears to be tolerant of us using the url to
these images in our own files, but they do change on occasion so dont
use them if you want consistant results. They also appear to allow you
to take a copy of the icons, and serve them from your server, there is
no specific mention of licence on the images, so I guess they are
technically copyright, but Google probably dont mind their use in
relation to Google Products (Maps/Earth) - but you should probably at
least credit the icon source)
