I have tried saving it, changing the extension from KMZ to ZIP and
then uncompressing it with PKZIP. But when I try to view the resulting
file with a plain text editor, it appears to be empty. This is true
when the file has a KML extension and also when it has a TXT
extension.
In general, I would like to view the contents of a KMZ file as plain
text. Any advice will be very welcome.
With thanks,
Gerry
Of course a .kml file can be opened directly.
Maybe the kmz file you have is currupt, and pkzip couldn't extract it
properly?
If you provide details of the file others could test it.
The KMZ file that I would like to look at as plain text can be
downloaded via a link from http://www.trec-uk.org.uk/resources.htm#CSP_GE
. It sounds from what you say as if corruption has crept in at some
point, although the original KMZ file works fine.
If anyone could convert that file to plain text and then send the
resulting file to me via the email address that can be seen at
http://www.trec-uk.org.uk/contact.htm, I would be very grateful.
Regards,
Gerry
I could extract it just fine.

I prefer not giving my email address away. Is it OK to upload it to
the files section of the group? The data is public anyway. I can
delete it ASAP if you want...
