Did you know that Walt Disney's original vision for EPCOT was not a
theme park, but a full-sized utopian city? Before he died Walt got
really into urban planning. He said, "It will be a community of
tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing
and testing and demonstrating new materials and systems. And EPCOT
will always be a showcase to the world for the ingenuity and
imagination." But after he died the company decided a theme park was a
safer way to go.
EPCOT specifically, and Florida generally, feels like it's built on
blind optimism. Ignore the swamps and hurricanes and just enjoy the
weather and the insane man-made structures!
The adventures with YACHT included, in addition to our EPCOT
adventure, a show at a music festival in Orlando, an in-store in Ft.
Lauderdale, swimming in the ocean in south beach, an insane dance show
with lasers and smoke machine in Miami, jet skiing in Key Largo, and
then watching the Space Shuttle Atlantis take off from Cape Canaveral.
An amazing trip.
Now I'm back in Portland with the good coffee and bad weather!
Tomorrow is the recording of the Goodiepal lecture.
