Colleagues, I'll explain later but any thoughts on the Milton Academy (Mass.) or Choate?  I don't much about them...Is one a better school than the other?  Thanks.

both excellent "top tier" prep schools, milton more urban, of course.  milton has a more liberal reputation.  my un-informed impression is that milton is more academic because it can draw from a wide range of day students on top of its boarding program, thus more competitive for admission.  but, frankly, both are well admired.

Hey all,
That is correct; huge scandal there is a book about it; they just hired
a new head of school starting in July; I had a chance to speak closey in
November with the current interim. I would prefer to talk off line; It is
very very liberal there; they have a lot going on with residential life;
they host an annual conference each year that many boarding school staff
attend and is very good. I don't know much of Choate just that we
sometimes get some of their girls who can't handle the rigor of the
prep/boarding school pacing. I hope this helps- Y

Michael,

Is this from the perspective of a student (parent)  or a faculty member?

Michael,

Choate is Deerfield’s closest rival school, but I never held that against them! They have downsized over the past 10 years, now about 800 kids.  Nice campus, and a wide range of academic offerings. Choate is definitely suburban, and Milton is urban.  Know also as a good academic school, they only have 50% of their kids board, and of those I suspect many are 5 day boarders. Boston does fill in the gap for the older students.

Hope this helps!

Pam
