Camilla of Culinary Adventures With Camilla said. "There seem to be a lot of books with this formula: person inherits a restaurant from a relative, comes to town to wrap up the estate (and sell!), but ends up falling in love with the restaurant and, usually, a person tied to the restaurant or town. Oh, and the person might unearth some family secrets along the way. The fact that the plot is predictable doesn't diminish the enjoyment though!" For her dish Camilla said, "...in the end, I was swayed by my boys' desire to perfect their Karaage, Japanese Fried Chicken, recipe and process. Gideon brings fried chicken to a picnic with Anna Kate. According to the townsfolk, he's famous for it. Josh admitted dreaming about Gideon's chicken."

Wendy of A Day in the Life on the Farm found extra meaning in the book, "Having recently lost my dearest friend, Kirsten, this book especially sang to me much like the blackbirds in the story sang love and comfort to those who heard them." Wendy combined the abundance of zucchini and pies in her unique Zucchini Cream Pie, saying, "I decided to make a pie using zucchini that my neighbor, in my small town, shared with me from his garden. This pie is the perfect ending for this wonderful novel and will be a perfect ending for your next dinner too."

Simona of Briciole said, "The novel is a fairy tale (favola) set in a village in Alabama, mostly in the café of the title. Anna Kate, the protagonist, inherits the business and uses her spare time to untangle family secrets. It is a pleasant read and while the ending is fairly expected, there are a few surprises along the way. When it came to making a dish Simona said, "I am Italian, so when I think about a dessert made with fruit, I think about crostata(tart). I presented crostata di mele (apple tart) some time ago so here I am sharing a recipe for Pear Tart. While the rendition on the photos uses Asian pears (pere asiatiche), the tart can be made with other pear varieties."

A big one. Her voice dropped low, her southern accent wrapping around me like a warm blanket. The women are guardians of a place where, under midnight skies, spirits cross from this world through a mystical passageway to the Land of the Dead.

Hi Adam! Thanks so much for stopping by the MG Book Village to share about your debut Middle Grade novel, The Midnight Brigade. Before we get to the book, would you care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I was lucky enough to hear Tiffany read from her novel when she presented it at the Otherwise Bookshop, and she kindly shared a copy for me to review. The story is aimed at younger readers but I was fully hooked.

In the novel, Beatrice stumbles upon a mystery that takes her through some of the most captivating spots in Rome. It makes for a great fictional introduction of buildings and places that can really be explored in the Eternal City. It would be the perfect story for older kids and teens who might be joining a family trip to Italy.

During that long ago car trip I was inspired by the immensity of this country, its beauty and varied landscape. Yet there was one constant that made an impression on me then and stays with me today. Almost without fail, every small town we drove through had a local Chinese restaurant, and I knew, much like my family, the people who ran these restaurants would be separated from the community by language and culture, that their lives would be lonely, especially the older generation, and that work and home were melded into one, unchanging and monotonous. I remember thinking of my own father who came to Canada in 1914 before the First World War, and spent his life toiling away in isolated communities like Timmins, Trois Rivières and Pembroke; I thought of his endurance and deep commitment to family.

In my writing I hope to lift this cloak of invisibility, if only a little, to give a glimpse to the rest of Canada of the lives upstairs from the restaurant, the laundry, the fruit market, to reveal the deep and complex emotions that exist behind the calm monotony of their daily routines. And on a personal note, I hope my writing, in some small way, is a tribute not just to my parents but to all those parents who came to Canada from a faraway land and toiled in obscurity to give their children brighter futures. I want them to be remembered.

In this novel, I loved the way Erdrich often beautifully blurred the distinction between hard-defined reality and the spirituality of nature, illustrating the inherent connectedness that the Chippewa feel with the earth and her spirits. They each have a relationship with the land and their ancestors, and thus they are open to experiences that white city folk may consider far-fetched or mystical.

Midnight, Texas is a fantasy and mystery series of novels created and written by Charlaine Harris. The three books, known as the Midnight, Texas trilogy are Midnight Crossroad (2014), Day Shift (2015), and Night Shift (2016). The books revolve around the daily affairs of a small West Texas town known as Midnight, Texas inhabited by various supernatural creatures such as vampires, weretigers, witches, and angels as well as being the home of a psychic, talking cat, and an assassin.

The Midnight, Texas novels are also set in the same universe as the Southern Vampire Mysteries (also written by Harris) and includes two characters from that book series Barry "The Bellboy" Horowitz and John Quinn.

Nine hours before she decided to die, Nora wandered around Bedford aimlessly. The town was a conveyor belt of despair. The pebble-dashed sports centre where her dead dad once watched her swim lengths of the pool, the Mexican restaurant where she'd taken Dan for fajitas, the hospital where her mum had her treatment.

8. Over the course of the book, Nora lives a whole spectrum of lives, some for minutes and some for months, but only at the end does time actually pass, and by the time she wakes up in her root life it is one minute and twenty-seven seconds past midnight and her outlook on life has changed entirely. What do you think this says about the speed at which we decide things about our lives and ourselves? Does it take a lifetime or a just few seconds?

This is the case for the Polidor. Bléry, caterer, owns the restaurant from 1845 to 1885. But it was Froissard who turned it into a real little restaurant in 1890, yielded it to Chauvin in 1900 and to Bouy in 1906. The life of the Polidor has always mixed up with the Parisian cultural life.

His most recent expertise was at Nemacolin Woodland Resort, where he led the culinary operations of a AAA Five Star Diamond and Forbes Five Star outlet, one of only 32 restaurants worldwide to have received both accolades. Other past awards include winning the coveted Chef of the Year competition hosted by Unilever and the Emirates Culinary Guild in the United Arab Emirates (2009), and the prestigious Chaine de Rotisseurs Diner Amicale award.
