The key difference is that Atheist don't believe in a god or higher power. However, an agnostic neither believes nor disbelieves in a god or higher power. Agnostics believe that it is impossible for human beings to know everything about the universe or how it was created. Atheist just believe in science and that there is not such thing as a "god".
