Many of our wood model designs have been inspired by real-life prototypes, while some of our other designs have been re-imagined from history. The engineering and production that go into each design are unmatched, with cutting-edge technology used to cut each individual plywood board. None of our models require glue or any special tools to complete assembly, and all the gears, cranks, and rubber bands work together with gravity to make them move. We have kits that cover a variety of interests such as game board enthusiasts, vehicles, and aviation models, mini kits that are the size of your palm called U-Fidgets, STEM kits that bring science, technology, engineering, and math together, and coloring model kits for kids 5+.

UGEARS is a 2014 Ukrainian startup with a growing worldwide reputation for producing unique, self-propelled, wooden mechanical DIY models, puzzle boxes and educational toys. Each UGEARS model has its own mechanical action that will amaze and delight.

UGEARS model kits come with everything you need for assembly. All parts are laser pre-cut into a high-quality plywood board for easy removal and assembly. Motion is accomplished using rubber bands, gears and gravity. Detailed color diagrams and step-by-step instructions are provided in 11 languages to guide you through the assembly process. No glue, special expertise, tools or equipment are required. Customer service is available 24/7, with spare parts provided and shipped free of charge.

UGEARS models are works of art, marvels of mechanical engineering, and surefire conversation starters. Most models have real world analogues, others are imagination brought to life. These eye-catching beauties are ideal for display in the home or office, but they are so much more! Each UGEARS model and puzzle box has its own unique and enchanting mechanical action, to delight your family and friends. Constructors will find satisfaction in bringing the models into being with their own hands, experiencing the magical moment of "birth" when the model shows the first spark of life.

UGEARS models and 3D puzzles make the beautiful world of mechanics more comprehensible. You will be able to touch every piece, every gear cog, and discover first-hand the workings of simple machines. Experience the thrill of self-propelled mechanical action that doesn't come from an electric socket or battery. Take a voyage to a previous century, to an age of elegant machines, fine detail and old-world craftsmanship, and rediscover the pleasure of understanding how things work.

If you install the plugin, you can create true involute gears and a mating rack to go with it. As has been pointed out, you can also create them using only native tools, but you specifically asked for an extension.

Not sure if you got your model figured out or not, but even if you have, this may help others in the future. Especially those having trouble wrapping their head around all the math involved in figuring out involute gears.

What makes UGears puzzle sets educational? Each wooden 3d puzzle features one or multiple moving elements, which work as an illustration of a mechanical principle, be that a Geneva drive, a pendulum, a claw mechanism, and much more. Almost every wooden puzzle is set in motion by a self-propelled rubber-band motor that, in some models, powers the gears that are exposed on the sides of the model, creating a fascinating show and providing an unusual learning experience for all the proud owners of these unique wooden puzzle toys.

While the Date Navigator could make a great wall decoration, the UGears Timer is a stylish tabletop accessory with beautiful moving gears and a rotating pendulum the rolls from side to side with a mesmerizing rhythm counting down time from 1 to 20 minutes with a pleasant ticking sound.

The UGears V-Express Steam Train with Tender is an astonishingly-detailed tribute to a legendary engineering era. Just like many other mechanical vehicle sets by UGears the side of this train is open which allows for an obstructed view of all its moving gears in all their glory.

The UGears Robot Factory is one of the best examples of the UGears Mechanical Towns series. With numerous tiny character figurines, this set can be easily combined with the other ones from the series to create a unique wooden city with fully-functioning motors, levers, and gears. This set features an assembly line that manufactures wooden mechanical robots and is powered by a wind-up rubber-band mechanism.

My husband usually zips through the easiest of Ugears prpducts. He loves them all but ADORES the more challenging/difficult products, which this was. All the componants fit together perfectly and are.made thicker then some of the cheaper brands so they dont break easy. Respectable company, decent price for what you receive.

I've read elsewhere that "involute" gears are more accurate and desirable:

Towards that end, I add this, which EXPLICITLY allows for the creation and
modification of "involute" gears.

This addon for Blender EXPLICITLY creates "involute" gears (just
tested on the latest version of Blender as of this writing: 2.76b.
Working. It's NOT the default addon.

Thank you for that. Now, if I was only smart enough to understand it.

Still, as an explanation of the theory of gears, I'm sure it will prove
useful.

In my research, I came across this:

Now THIS guy KNOWS gears (AND Blender) A beautiful, functional,
if not (his words, real world) work of art.

"a real-life fabrication of this mechanism wouldn't be able to bare significant torque"

For certain gear models, such as the Simple Gear, efficiency is assumed equal for both the forward and reverse power flow, ηBF = ηFB. For blocks like the Leadscrew block that use Floss instead of Tf, the same expression applies in terms of force.

Falk produces some of the most reliable and durable gearbox units available. Since their inception in the 1800s, the company has established itself as one of the primary gearbox manufacturers in the transportation industry, being most recognizable for creating the gears for the Panama Canal gates.

The Falk Ultramite gearbox is designed to have a longer shelf life. Its main advantage is that the high-speed pinion is supported by bearings in the gearbox instead of motor bearings. This eliminates many of the common problems, such as dirt contamination and fretting, that occur with standard incline gearbox models.

This Falk right-angle gearbox model is engineered specifically to serve the needs of cooling tower systems and other vertical-driven applications. The bevels and gears are cut using advanced technology to minimize noise and vibration levels. All gearbox units are finished with high-quality marine-grade paint to ensure the equipment will last even in the harshest cooling system conditions.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater reveals that Metal Gear's design originates with Soviet weapons designer Dr. Aleksandr Leonovitch Granin comparing the concept to the theory of the missing link between apes and men, evidenced by two design drawings (Metal Gear REX and Metal Gear D) on his desk, with him calling it the missing link between infantry and artillery. Infantry can go anywhere but are easily destroyed and carry limited firepower. Artillery can inflict and sustain far more damage, but are at the mercy of terrain. In short, for a tank to be perfect, it needs legs. Early Metal Gear models are also seen thanks to Dr. Granin's colleagues in direct sequels; Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops features the quadrupedal design Intercontinental Ballistic Metal Gear by Dr. Nikolai Stepanovich Sokolov and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker features the first bipedal design Metal Gear ZEKE by Dr. Huey Emmerich.

Metal Gear RAY differs from previous Metal Gear models in that it is not a nuclear launch platform, but instead, a weapon of conventional warfare, originally designed by the U.S. Marines to hunt down and destroy the many Metal Gear derivatives that became common after Metal Gear REX's plans leak following the events of Shadow Moses. RAY is designed to be even more maneuverable and flexible in deployment than other models and can operate both on land and in water. While RAY has a pair of Gatling guns and missile launchers on its back and knees to defend itself from more conventional battlefield threats, its primary weapon is a powerful water jet cutter, which can cut through heavily armored foes, such as Metal Gear derivatives. RAY is more organic in appearance and in function than previous models. Its streamlined shape helps to deflect enemy fire and allows for greater maneuverability both on land and in water. Its interior workings are also somewhat organic, as it has artificial fibers that contract when electricity is applied, much like natural muscle, instead of typical hydraulics; this pseudo-muscle tissue makes it very maneuverable. It also has a nervous-system-like network of conductive nanotubes, which connect the widely dispersed sensor systems and relay commands from the cockpit to the various parts of RAY's body, automatically bypassing damaged systems and rerouting to auxiliary systems when needed. Another feature is its blood-like armor-repair nanopaste, which is secreted from valves and coagulates wherever the exterior surface is damaged. Particularly unusual is its "face", with two "eyes" and a gaping "mouth", only seen when the head armor is removed. The original version is an operational prototype labeled "MARINES", which has a cockpit for a single pilot, and a long tail intended for balance while making leaps or operating underwater. The entire forward interior of the cockpit is a heads-up display, allowing the pilot to look around as if there were no obstruction between him and the battlefield. The mass-production model labeled "U.S. NAVY" lacks the tail of the prototype, but it has rounded knees and only one sensory input or "eye" instead of the prototype's two. They are also painted in an olive-drab camouflage pattern.
