Hello All,
Four people attending the KBAS field trip today at Moore Park. It was very nice. Many of the resident birds were busy with courtship and woodpeckers especially with chasing, drumming, excavating cavities.
Interesting birds seen and heard: WILD TURKEY !! One even gobbled!!! This species has just recently arrived at Moore Park in the last 2 years or so.
Five species of Woodpeckers, including a pair of Hairy Woodpeckers, a Downy, numerous Red-breasted Sapsuckers, Northern Flickers, and. White-headed Woodpecker which is always great to see..Oak TItmouse were quite vocal. A pair of California Towhees were seen up from the far NE paved part of roads in the park, and bit out the Eulalona Trail.
Of all the birds seen, 14 were cavity nesting bird species. Nine of those species do not make their own cavities, so the woodpeckers are important bird species at Moore Park.
Thanks to those attending and enjoying the birds!
Vivian, Macey, and Gali !
Hope to see you out in the field. Good Birding!
