The Klamath Falls CBC had some quite wet cold weather. Hard snow fell from 1030 on for about 3 and half hours. It was the persistent effort that participants were able to find times where birds showed themselves. For the most part nearly all of the regular checklist species were seen. Additional birds tallied raised the species total for the day to 111 species.
Preceeding the count were many days of freezing temperatures that reduced still water to ice and moving water to just both ends of the Link River. However, the recent front moved in a day prior to the count and really reduced the ice and the open water increased.
Among the uncommon to rare birds seen for the day: Short-eared Owl, Northern Yellow-rumped Warbler (3 areas reporting), Mountain Bluebird , Brown-headed Cowbird, Western and Clark's Grebes, Double-creasted Cormorant, CACKLING GOOSE-1, EURASIAN WIGEON-1, Sora and Virginia Rail, CANYON WREN, AMERICAN PIPIT, AMERICAN BITTERN, MOUNTAIN QUAIL, Varied Thrush, White-headed Woodpecker, and Anna's Hummingbird (3 reports).
Thanks to all those that participated: Julie Van Moorhem, Dave Haupt, Elijah Hayes, Lin Stern, Jeremy Webster, Jeff Sparks, Kathy and Ron Larson, BJ Matzen, Rick Hardy, Sherry Lindley and Jim, Dave Potter, Rebecca Whitney Smith, and Wes Stone, and Kevin Spencer; all are among the Klamath Basin's contingent of great observers here.
