Reminder of field trip, previously advertised.

Waterfowl and Waders, October 18, 9 am to 4:00 pm.

This trip will be visiting the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge to view staging and migrating waterfowl and waders, which includes Greater White-fronted Goose, and numerous duck species. Tall waders include Great Egret and Great Blue Heron. A late American Bittern could possibly be seen. There are many other species that will be encountered. Meet at the locomotive in Veteran’s Park prior to the 9:00 am departure time. This is a tour by vehicle, so there will be limited walking  on this trip. Binoculars needed, and scopes encouraged. Water, food, hat, and sunscreen are strongly suggested and carpooling encouraged.

I went down to the Lower Klamath NWR this past week, mostly  to check the refuge for any closures due to the government shutdown. I did not find any. So, I thought that I would still honor the fieldtrip. It will have some adjustments, but the afternoon will likely be at LKNWR. There has been reports of Sandhill Crane concentrations. And just yesterday there was  a sighting of a rare shorebird for the Klamath Basin, a few STILT SANDPIPERS were seen on the Oregon side of LKNWR. The main reason for getting to LKNWR in the afternoon is to avoid hunters who favor the morning hours.  So, we will see the usuals, and hope for some gems. I will have walkie-talkies, and will lobby for car-pooling. See you tomorrow if you are going.
