to Klamath Basin Bird news
Hi all,
On Tuesday, I checked out Butte Valley hoping to see an early
Ferruginous Hawk. No luck with that, but along Cook Campbell Road, I saw
at least 200 Violet-green Swallows and another 500 or more as I entered
the Butte Valley Wildlife Area. Meiss Lake is pretty dry now. At 1:30
this afternoon, I was driving by the entrance to Lower Klamath and
noticed a car parked alongside of the large refuge sign as you go in.
The folks were quite close to the Barn Owl perched on the sign, giving
them knock your socks off looks at the owl. I watched it for a bit and
then left. The owl was still there when I left. I did not see the
Peregrine Falcon at its usual location along State Line east of the
maintenance station probably because what seemed like half of the cattle
in the basin filled that field. There were 4 Sandhill Cranes at White
Lake near the 13.37 MP. White Lake is getting water now.
