One service event that I feel doesn't get enough attention is Dorothy Day House. Since it is in the wee, dark hours of the morning, 6:30AM-9:30AM, people might have other conflicts (sleep/class). It's really difficult to wake up for it, not going to lie, but once you get there, it is not bad at all! The people who volunteer there are really nice, and it is a very laid-back atmosphere. When you first get there, you help set up and prepare the breakfast food. Then you load it up in a truck, and everyone drives over to the church across from the RSF where you serve the food to the homeless. After serving, you put everything back into the truck and drive back to the original location to wash dishes and clean up. The three hours always goes by super fast. Also, because the service is small, you only volunteer with one or two Aphio people at a time which means it is easier to talk to and get to know people. I highly recommend signing up for Dorothy Day House at least once just to try it out, but make sure you go to sleep early the night before!
