When i want to open a .gwbk file from a friend.
I try to restore in the localhost. But after a while waiting it says stopped running.
After this i can't login anymore with my own account.
Can someone help me Thanks
In the future, I suggest you use a separate gateway when you want to try someone else's stuff.
The simplest way to do that is to use docker, then you'll just have to start a container to create a new gateway.
Basically, you can just download and install docker desktop, create an account on dockerhub and link it to docker desktop. Then you can search and pull images from there.
When you have an image, you'll have to make a container from it: In the images tab, click run on the image you want, then you'll have to fill a few things: container name, ports, and a few environment variables. All of this is described on the dockerhub page for the ignition's image.
I personally use docker compose, which in its basic form is setup using a single configuration file. Multiple container can be setup in a single compose environment, which is nice to spin up in no time an environment with a gateway and a database for example.
Docker has nothing to do with opening a gwbk in itself.
The point was to restore that backup on a NEW gateway, so you don't mess your own stuff.
Docker makes the process of running a new gateway very easy.
I made a new gateway and try to open the .gwbk file from a friend. But when i press restore file it is loading and loading. Then i have to login again but the username en password i create on the new gateway doesnt work then. What do i wrong?
To access it in a docker container, you can either use the terminal from docker desktop (click on the container),
or from a terminal type docker exec -it container name or id bash to enter the container's shell.
Or use the gwcdm directly:
Hi Peter, I am still playing with ST3 and have noticed when backing up my ST2 .stb file I tried to restore it in ST3 using iTunes File Sharing. It did allow me to drop and drag it into my ST3 File sharing but wouldn't allow me to see it in the restore backup. Showed No Recents, also clicking on Browse also kept it invisible. So I tried to create a new backup from within ST3 and again it showed it in iTunes File Sharing but the same problem in restore, No recents and nothing new from withing the Browse area of ST3. Please can you test this or explain why it does not show up?
Many thanks :-)
Maybe you did not view the correct folder in Restore? If you copy files to the iPad with iTunes filesharing, they will be stored in the Stage Traxx 3 folder. So when restoring, make sure that folder is selected.
Not sure what my next step would be. I always have Time Machine running on the whole drive, so I'm thinking of restoring from a Time Machine backup, but I wonder if that won't recreate the problems I'm having?
Would the thing to do be to restore the OS completely, and then somehow bring over all the files outside the system? The problem is I have a ton of software (music) that I think creates system files? Not sure. And if so, then I would lose all that/have to reinstall many things?
Actually, what Disk Warrior is telling you is that your Mac's hard drive may be corrupted. It may be so because it is either faulty or starting to fail. You didn't mention which exact model iMac that you have or how old it is.
I don't use Disk Warrior so I can't give you any step-by-steps, but it should have the option to check your Mac's hard drive throughly for errors. Alternatively, you can use macOS's Disk Utility or another third-party app to do this.
In itself, restoring from a Time Machine backup, may or may not fix system problems. It will depend on what the problem actually is. However, it may be possible to restore individual files or the entire system from these backups.
Again, it will depend on what issues you are having with your iMac. Reinstalling a "fresh" copy of the OS would be considered the "most drastic" measure but shouldn't be performed until you can first verify that there are no hardware issues present.
To answer your question more directly, you could put your iMac into either Recovery or Internet Recovery mode to restore the OS. Then use Migration Assistant along with your Time Machine backups to restore your applications and data.
Thank you! So do you think the first step might be to do a full Time Machine backup restore and see if the problems I'm seeing are gone? If they're still present, then I do a full Internet Recovery OS restore, wiping the disk clean and use Migration Assistant/Time Machine to restore apps and Data?
Thank you so much for this. Very kind of you! I had gone already ahead and done a restore from Time Machine (the most recent full one it had, from this afternoon actually) and I ran disk warrior again and it showed the drive as 100% and not needing to be rebuilt.
I'm in the middle of doing a couple of things that had resulted in problems (one is a large file download and installation), and if they turn out ok, do you think I'm out of the woods regarding 1) the drive being potentially damaged and b) the system being back to functioning well?

The "100%" results are a good sign, but I would suggest that you consider adding disk cloning to your backup strategy if you don't already do so. That way, should the internal drive fail for any reason, you can quickly get back up and running from the cloned drive.
Sorry, but there is no way to guarantee that. If the last backup that was restored was at a point where there were no issues with your iMac, then it should function as well as when that backup was made.
My wife's phone developed a bug with the clock during the most recent iOS update. We don't have a back up of the phone at the moment. What I'm wondering is if I back up the phone in iTunes and then restore the phone completely then use the iTunes back up when setting it up again would the suspected bug be reinstalled?
I contacted Apple Support with a very strange bug I was experiencing and they told me that yeah, SOMETIMES a backup can contain a bug. And also if you always update over Wi-Fi, it could go from one iOS version to another.
I have to mention that I'm using iCloud for my photos, emails, notes contacts, calendars and other apps and Apple Music. So all of my important data was downloaded from iCloud, but the conversations were clear, because I didn't use 'Messages' for iCloud at that point.
My quick question is if I create a Windows system image on a Dynamic Disk (Microsoft recommends against it, but it's my only option right now) and then move the backup files to a network share, will I still be able to restore from it when I need it?
There are several issues. First, it seems that Windows 10 does not support system image backup, but provides it for backward compatibility with Windows 7. I can access it in Control Panel through Control Panel\System and Security\Backup and Restore (Windows 7)
When restoring a system image from this volume, the disks on your computer cannot be formatted to match the layout of the disks in the backup. To have full restore functionality, select a volume on basic disk as your backup location.
I can't change my Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk now because I have to reformat it, so I tried to store the image on my NAS. Now when specifying the network share to save the image, it fails with this error: "the specified backup disk cannot be found." There are lengthy threads on Microsoft forums about this issue with no working answer. This StackExchange post suggests to use a folder without network access restrictions, but that still didn't work for me.
Also make sure "Block Level Backup Engine Service" is running. If there is an existing backup in the backup location, Windows will use it for block-level copying of the files, which will greatly speed up the job.
Note that if you want to backup also files and folders, in Windows 10 the File History app is recommended over the old Backup and Restore. But for creating system images as of now (version 1803) there is no new solution available by Microsoft.
If you backed up system image, you'll see a "WindowsImageBackup" folder in your backup drive. If you also chose to backup files, you will also have a "MediaID.bin" file and a folder with the name of your computer that you can open to restore your files.
To restore the system image you will need a System Repair Disc that you can create from Backup and Restore (Windows 7) window by clicking on "Create a system repair disc" on the left. But don't do that because you need an ISO. Go to Windows download page and download the Media Creation Tool. Run it and create the installation media to an ISO file (Windows.iso).
Now the question is, how to restore from the VHD file using system repair disc? I haven't tried it yet, but my plan is to use Hyper-V and attach a physical hard disk plus the system image VHD, and Windows.iso as DVD drive. Boot from the DVD and follow System Image Recovery to restore from the attached VHD into the physical HDD.
I am trying to restore my D1600 from CD backups (there are 24). The restore process starts fine but gives me an 'Illegal Disk' error when I get to disk 4 (at which point the restore is 43% done). Assuming there is a bad CD in a set of backup CD's what is the procedure to bypass the bad disk and go on to the rest?
I see that the restore process is actually creating the partitions (as I expected), but went ahead and used fdisk to delete all partitions and create just one large 1.8TB partition. The restore created its own table with a partition too small. ??
Is this somehow related to the vhdz format? I am normally using Raw copy-on-write, but for testing, I put one of these clients in a new group and changed the image format to vhdz in an attempt to make sure I can use this type at a different location (no btrfs there). The image backup appears to go fine, but cannot restore as noted above.
