Hi guys,

I need some guidance as to how to approach this scenario:

I need to be able to add items to a basket, go to checkout, etc. and
then in the end the buyers details gets captured and then an email
gets sent to the buyer with a transaction reference and instructions
on how to make payment to the shop owner. The shop owner then also
gets an email with transaction details and then the owner can take it
from there, i.e. contact the buyer to make sure payment gets made etc.
before goods are shipped.

Therefore one has to be able to capture the buyers details and process
the transaction in offline mode.

Is this in any way fairly easy to do or will this involve a lot of
development hours? Maybe someone could just help me with where in the
code I should go dig and I could attempt this myself.

Thanks
Ettiene

I haven't followed through much on Paypal but I know that Google will email both the merchant (seller) and the customer (buyer). The merchant can through Google's Checkout facility look at the order, process it (charge the customer - this is already pre-authorised by Google) and ship it - see Google and Paypal's website for more information. The control over the transactions can vary to be done through your own site which requires a higher level of intergration and therefore SSL.
Hopefully when I have got this basic integration level sorted out (and time/work dependent) I will look at the higher integration.

Hi Ettiene

Sorry forgot to ask what you mean by offline mode?

Google and Paypal will capture (or already have) the buyers details when the agree to the transaction (even if its held awaiting your authorisation - which is my prefered method).

Thanks for the replies Richard.

With offline mode I mean using no real payment gateway, but still
having some of the functionality that a payment gateway should give
(like storing buyer details and sending of confirmation emails and
generating a transaction ID). I'm in South Africa, and the shop I'm
building is a south african one. Paypal supports south african
merchant accounts, but not in our local currency. Google Checkout
doesn't even support south african merchant accounts, last time I
checked. So that's my problem.

Thanks

Although Kiwee has the potential to store order and customer details the work I'm doing wont have that available as yet.
