Good evening,

I was wondering if Kivy works on the Kindle Fire (HD), in theory its a (slightly) modified version of Android?

If so, are there any Kivy apps on the Kindle app market? I know there are now several on the google-play android market.

I have only recently seen Kivy, but I have to say I am very impressed. I really love Python and want to make apps with it, so I am extremely encouraged by the Kivy project.

thanks,

Peter.

Hi Niko,

thanks for your reply.

From what I understand, I can side-load apps on the Kindle Fire, using the .apk files. I can't find any way to download the actual .apk file from the google-play website (which seems to need an android device with the google-play app installed, which the Kindle Fire doesn't have).

Is there anywhere I can get the actual .apk files for these (or other) Kivy apps without using the google-play store? I didn't find these .apk files on the Kivy website, just the link to the google-play website.

Many thanks,
Peter.

I'm going to build some apk for Android tomorrow to test. I may share it with you. I'm wondered about Kindle Fire doesn't support installation from Google Apps.

That would be great. I appreciate any help I can get. My knowledge of Python istelf is not too bad I suppose, but I am quite ignorant when it comes to using it with languages/platforms. Thanks, Peter.

Kivy Touchtracer works on Kindle Fire HD.

I followed the instructions on the Kivy website for creating the android .apk package, using the Virtualbox image supplied (on a windows machine). I have very little experience using Linux, but the instructions were quite clear so it was fairly straightforward.

I emailed it and downloaded the attachment from the Kindle, it installed easily. It seems to run at least as fast as the .py file does on my laptop (2.8 ghz).

I am very encouraged by this. Kivy seems to be really great and I can create apps using Python, no need to learn Java etc.

I would suggest the folks at Kivy have some .apk files available for download, so people can test things out without building the .apk file and without connecting to google-play. I couldn't manage to install touchtracer to a virtualbox android from google-play.

regards,
Peter.
