AsyncImage not loading (rather loading forever)

AsyncImage does not load. Loader stays spinning forever: http://pbrd.co/16ak452
The screenshot is from the AsyncImage widget example. I've tried my own code with working links, same result.
Cloned Kivy dev yesterday (11 June).
How do I debug this? The only error I see is on the pic: "No module named request"
