Best way to update without using responsiveness

I'm using the garden.graph widget to display real-time data on a raspberry-pi.

I use a Clock callback to update the graph and noticed that my app feels less responsive if the graph update frequency is too high.

Is there a way to update the graph as often as possible without loosing responsiveness?
