.KV files don't show in PyCharm

Hey, I'm using Kivy for the first time using PyCharm as my environment and I'd like to know how to create .kv files. I have installed Kivy and the example provided works however when I try to create a .kv file it says the file type does not exist. I tried creating a normal text document with the extension .kv and it worked however it does not show any colors for function, modules, class or anything. I'm running Python 2.7.9 with PyGame and Kivy installed.
