It seems that putting it under the root of my newApp dir doesn't work.

Assuming that you have a created a Kivy App project which contains 2 Python scripts and 2 kv files. The filename for one of the two Python scripts is main.py which is your application entry point. If you run your Kivy App at command level, you type Python main.py
