I have a 9 month old Newfoundland Lanseer puppy (NOAH) and I have
noticed that he has scaly patches kinda like dandruff on his skin.
Can someone please let me know the best supplements/shampoo's/brushes
used to maintain his coat nice and healthy. Thank you so very much,
Cynthia.

P.S.
We feed him Iams large breed food (half the puppy food and half the
adult food)

He weighs 104 Lbs. .....What does that tell me about his estimated
size as an adult!!!???

Thank you!

No doubt someone way more knowledgeable than I will answer you later w/much more informed advice, but in the meantime, here are some stray thoughts:

 - if you're in contact w/Noah's breeder, s/he will likely have good advice for you.
 - you *might* want to get Noah looked at by your vet, just to be sure it's not an actual dermatological condition.
 - excessive bathing is one way to dry out a dog's skin, so if you're e.g. bathing him every week, that's probably too much.
 - FWIW, I use Pert Plus (the people shampoo) on my guy, and have been very happy w/the results (that's due to Karyn's advice)
 - I've had similar good results w/a pin brush (10-15 min every other day or so--or longer if I let it go) and a wide-toothed comb a couple of times a month.  You ramp up during the high-shedding times of course.

We're not "show folk" though, so my grooming goals are not as lofty as some... ;-)

Hope that's helpful.

Cheers,

Sorry to be late to this discussion (been out of town for a couple weeks)...

You might also consider diet. I recall being told years ago that too much
protein can sometimes cause skin problems, and Iams is supposed (or at least
used) to have a higher protein content than some foods.

If it seems like dry skin you might also try adding a bit of olive
oil to his food.
