Translation Guidelines
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:29:14 AM »
Hi, everyone!

I am working on KISSlicer's translations and internationalization (i18n) code.  Right now you can use the Languages menu to export the most recent POT file, then use gettext translation tools (like Poedit: http://www.poedit.net/) to generate a PO file translation into your language!  Whenever KISSlicer changes, you can update your translation PO file with the latest POT file, keeping all the strings you have already translated.

Here are the basic guidelines:
  • One thread per language, please.
  • Please keep the most up-to-date translation PO file as an attachment in the 1st post.
  • I think a naming scheme like "ks_LL.po" is a good idea, where LL is your language code:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes
  • Use whatever tools you want, and please allow collaboration to some extent.
  • Make sure to update the 1st field (_Translation_By_) with something like 'XYZ Translation by [your name(s)]'
I'm attaching the current POT file here (log in to see it).

thanks!
Jonathan

EDIT: I just updated the POT file!  Your translation tool of choice should have an option to incorporate all the new strings into your already-translated PO file.  (In Poedit the function is [Catalog]=>[Update from POT file...])

EDIT 2013-03-11: updated again for the Release Candidate 1

EDIT 2013-03-15: updated for RC1 (thanks, Markku!)

Hi,

finished first round with Finnish :-) Lot's of translations still to be fixed. Anyway, here's my findings about the texts that can't be translated right now (1.1.0.5 beta). Hope this helps you to add the rest of the terms into their places..

Hi,
The french file is attached, several strings are missing.
Great, thanks!!

Could you make a new thread in this translations forum with "French" in the title?  Then all comment on this translation can go into that thread.  I will be sweeping through those threads to collect all translations before I release the next version  of KISSlicer.

thanks again!

Hello people,
I have started to translate the language file in the German language. Still missing some parts but it is a start.

Best regards,
frank

Thank you, Frank!

As a quick note: I just updated the POT file in the 1st post to reflect all the latest strings.  Poedit (and all gettext tools) can update a PO catalog from a POT file, so this will keep (almost all of) the work you have done already.

Thanks again!  I'm nearing release, and it is exciting to have a bunch of languages ready to go!  Make sure you fill out the "_Translation_By_" field so you get credit!

thanks,
Jonathan

The 1.1.0 release is almost ready!  If you have an updated translation file, please post it, and make sure you fill out the translation credit field!  It should look something like this:
Code: [Select]
msgid "_Translation_By_"
msgstr "Klingon translation by Worf (fake.website.com)"

thanks,
Jonathan

dear powerframe

I would like to participate on the German translation! It is extremely important, that we are using simple terms, so that beginners are able to understand the  terms at a glance. My eMail is:

Got this while trying to update with pot  :-[

Problem found: "M106 Snnn" should be without "..." I guess, but how I modify the pot to fix this?

...and problem fixed with Notepad++  ;D

Jonathan, you should run the "Validate" in poedit before saving  8)

Ouch...yeah, using double quotes was a dumb move on my part!  I didn't actually run it through Poedit this last time...I just did the export from KISSlicer using [Preferences]->[Languages]->[Save Reference Language File] and then posted it...sorry!

Thanks for the help!  The first post is updated yet again.  [8^)

Just uploaded a Dutch version. I hope it will help people that want to get into 3d printing but have difficulties with the English language to start using this great slicer.
I noticed though that there are still quite a lot of places where there is no translation. For example:

Support slider: everything is translated, but the setting itself (off, coarse, rough, etc.) isn't
buttons Copy support, Delete support
Speed settings for Fast - Lower quality are all English
buttons Copy Style, Delete Style
main tabs

Hi, just finished the Czech translation. Apart from what was already mentioned I found few other things that should be translatable like all the dialog windows, along with their names.
Best wishes for development team.
