The challenge was going to be really hard even using cycles and the hair sim, but having to make everything realtime raises the bar to a whole new level. I also have to recreate 4 characters from the Big Buck Bunny short and put it all together in a nice looking scene. I already started sculpting them, and my goal is to have nice looking models, not technicaly refined characters ready for animation, which would be impossible given the time frame until the deadline. Thats it for now, I am going to be showing some timelapses of the character creations in the comming days, as well as other updates to the scene.

To start, I decided to address the big elephant (or bunny) in the room first. I sculpted the bunny using some frames from the short as reference, and did a VERY basic retopology so I can paint and pose him in this early stage, to check if I am going to the right direction.

And here is my version so far. I will get back to the texturing and grooming later (if the paiting is not enough, I will consider adding a few fur cards to make the model pop), all I need for now is a rough idea to see if everything is looking decent.

The last few days were really crazy, I havent got much time to post the proccess updates, but now that is concluded I hope I can share more about how I got from that abstract poorly sketched first concept to the final scene on Sketchfab. The challenge was HUGE, but I knew that from the beggining, as I was the one to blame for envisioning such a complex scene. The proccess was really difficult, and I almost gave up after the first days, not being confident enough that I was going to be able to delivery a decent piece. I am glad I keept going when things werent looking so good, because now I can say that I am happy with the result. I hope my work can show, even if just a little bit, how important and central Blender is and has been in my life for the last 16 years. For most of the time, it was a hobby, a way of getting my head of school, college, and later on of my stressful dayjob at a bank, but since a few yers ago I decided to fully pursuit a carreer in CG and game development, and I own everything I am doing today to the wonderful people from the Blender Foundation and the open source community.

Enough talking, here is the final model on Sketchfab. Now I have to organize all the prints, files and the big mess I made to get this piece done, so I can share a bit more of the technical aspects of the project, mainly the optmizations and the realtime aspects of it.

Big Buck Bunny is a 10-minute short film by the Peach open movie project which had the working title A Rabbit's Revenge.[1] The film is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. The film premiered in April 10, 2008[2] and was released for Internet download in May 30, 2008[3].

The story features the titular Bunny, as well as three mischievous rodents. The Bunny, in spite of his big and lumbering appearance, is a gentle one: He adores a beautiful butterfly that... gets crushed by a falling fruit. Oblivious to where the fruit came from, the Bunny strolls forward, sees another butterfly... that eventually gets crushed by the three nasty rodents, who proceed to bully the big, slow bunny even more by throwing things at him. The Bunny then proceeds to get even by rigging the woods with various cartoony traps; the rodents fall into them one by one. In the end, the Bunny turns the leader of the rodent gang, a gliding squirrel, into a kite.

A Rabbit's Revenge is an open source 3D movie project that premiered in April 2008 and was released for Internet download in May. In addition to being sold on DVD, it was also published freely on the official website for anyone to watch or use.

Like the previous film produced by the Blender Foundation, Elephants Dream, the film is intended to push the boundaries of what can be done with Open Source software and Blender specifically; the film was produced entirely by using open source (using software such as Blender, GIMP and Inkscape), and new features, such as fur control, were implemented in Blender specifically for this film.

Like with Elephants Dream, the film is also an "open source film" in that all of the source assets required for making the film - including 3D models, textures, and like - are available for use under the Creative Commons Attribution license. This will allow anyone to make new films or renderings based on Big Buck Bunny.

In my limited experience thus far, I have found that my rabbits get along well together and show every sign of enjoying each other's company. So I would very much like to keep my buck in with the pregnant doe until her time approaches. But I have just read about some issue that this can cause called double pregnancy. Apparently, rabbits can get pregnant twise and carry both to term at the same time, and this can cause serious issues for both batches.

If males are not removed at or prior to birth of the young, postpartum breeding is possible. Does that become pregnant on a postpartum breeding will not be able to nurse their previous litter until normal weaning age, and this can lead to decreased survival rates in both litters of Kids Management of Pregnant and Neonatal Dogs, Cats, and Exotic Pets; Cheryl Lopate; John Wiley & Sons, May 22, 2012

If you leave the babies in with the parents, you could in theory have 1300 rabbits in one year, of course your initial mother will be be physically wasted from spending 12 months pregnant and nursing at the same time, if she survives 12 months.

Agressive breeders will breed as often as every 60 days, but a healthier recommendation is not more more than every 90 days. Once mature your rabbits can breed with only a few seconds of contact. The buck should only be placed with the doe when sufficient time has passed for the mother to recover, and you are attempting to breed her.

The other point to consider is the rabbit bond. Rabbits form very strong bonds, that are difficult to create and to break. When rabbits break their existing bond due to death or forced separation care must be take to keep the "rabbit from sinking into deep depression which can threaten his or her life as well, especially if they were very devoted".

If you have left young rabbits together until they are old enough to result in pregnancy that you have probably allowed the mother to get pregnant before she is physically mature enough for a healthy pregnancy. If you have placed intact (not spayed or neutered) rabbits together who are mature enough have a healthy pregnancy and allowed them to bond you have set them up for forced depression when the bond is broken.

Double Pregnancy (Superfetation) has been reported in rabbits but is not well documented in domestic rabbits. Additionally partial re-absorption and delayed delivery have been reported on some blogs. I did not find strong scientific studies on Superfetation for domestic rabbits, the possibility can not be ruled out, providing yet another reason for buck and doe separation.

You can get the guy fixed and they can live together without the female getting pregnant I would look for signs that the female is close to pregnancy and take the male away once she shows these signs as for the double pregnancy it's pretty rare but if you want to be sure she doesn't have a double pregnancy seperate them until you get the male fixed

Before breeding your rabbits you should always do a pre-breeding inspection looking over both rabbits to make sure they are in good condition. I trim nails and do some preventive natural mite treatment and note any problems with the rabbit. I gradually increase the feed of underweight rabbits to get them in the ideal condition for breeding. Rabbits in good condition, and with the right nutrients can have up to 40 bunnies per doe per year (5 litters a year) or even more in a high production setup.

Pelleted feed is complete at the time of manufacture, but Vitamins A and E are vulnerable to poor or prolonged storage. Both are needed for the willingness and ability to breed. Instead of increasing the pellets, I suggest feeding about a tablespoon of black oil sunflower seeds for Vitamin E and a good handful of dark leafy greens (dandelions, plantain, raspberry, and Kale are fine) for Vitamin A. If the rabbits have never had greens, start with just a couple of leaves and work up to more.

Some bucks tire out too quickly. They just run out of energy before they can complete all of the running around and miss-mounts that may occur in natural breeding. They may be overweight or need a larger cage to get more exercise. Fat bucks tend to be less interested in the ladies. So give your bucks a bigger cage or put out on pasture for some exercise.

Also take the buck to her cage but be careful (watch carefully as she may try to protect her territory) as this is not the normal practice, usally you only bring the doe to the buck but this will trigger natural instinct in the doe and may cause her to want to breed.

AGE
The biological time clock affects rabbits just like humans. Females typically can be bred for the first time at five months. Males usually reach sexual maturity by six months of age. However, these times vary. Larger breeds are slower to reach sexual maturity and smaller breeds sooner.

Be sure your rabbits have reached sexual maturity and are the proper weight and condition for their breed prior to mating. Monitor the amount of food your rabbit eats to prevent overeating and excess weight gain. If a more intensive breeding schedule is desired, a high production pellet formula is recommended. Formulated with extra protein and nutrition it enables does to produce up to 64 bunnies per year (8 litters per year).

Another Idea is the Introduction. His cage is doubled sized with a door between rooms. You close the door between rooms. Thus you put her in one side where his scent is, and then open the door between them when you are ready to breed. It also helps maintain his weight with having the extra area.
