Greetings KRew
I was thinking about running this morning as I was writing this newsletter, the highs, the lows, the ups the downs. As we all go through our individual running journeys, we all experience it differently, so times we are flying and sometimes we seem to be plagued by constant hits of injury, illness or life not allowing us to run as we’d like. Just for fun I asked Google AI what it thought about running, and I thought it was summed up quite nicely. So, as a first from me, below is what Google AI said about running:
“Running is a multifaceted activity with both physical and mental benefits. It's a popular form of exercise that offers cardiovascular health, weight management, and stress relief. Beyond the physical, running can boost mood, improve sleep, and provide a sense of accomplishment. Running can also be a powerful metaphor for life, encouraging resilience and the pursuit of personal goals.
Here's a more detailed look at the various aspects of running:
Physical Benefits:
· Cardiovascular Health: Running strengthens the heart and improves blood flow, reducing the risk of heart disease.
· Weight Management: As a high-calorie-burn exercise, running can aid in weight loss and maintenance.
· Bone Strength: Running is a weight-bearing exercise that helps build strong bones.
· Muscle Strength: Running strengthens muscles, especially in the legs and core.
· Improved Stamina: Running increases endurance and overall physical fitness.
Mental and Emotional Benefits:
· Stress Relief: Running releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting and stress-reducing effects.
· Improved Mood: Regular running can help reduce anxiety, depression, and improve overall well-being.
· Enhanced Sleep: Exercise can improve sleep quality and reduce fatigue, leading to better rest.
· Sense of Accomplishment: Achieving running goals, whether it's a personal best or completing a race, provides a sense of satisfaction.
· Mental Clarity: Running can provide a break from daily worries and offer a space for focused thought and self-reflection.
· Resilience: Pushing oneself through challenging runs can build mental toughness and resilience.
Beyond the Physical and Mental:
· Social Connection: Running can be a social activity, with group runs, races, and clubs providing opportunities for connection.
· Environmental Awareness: Running outdoors can foster a connection with nature and the environment.
· Metaphor for Life: Running can be seen as a metaphor for pursuing goals, overcoming obstacles, and pushing oneself to achieve personal bests.
In conclusion, running offers a wide range of benefits for both physical and mental health. It's a versatile activity that can be adapted to various fitness levels and goals, making it a great choice for individuals seeking a healthier and more fulfilling life.”
Let me know your thoughts on running in the comments below.
This week is week 2 of Vivid and we will be using the Vivid Variation Course v2.0 a nice cruise around the western side of the Rocks. See picture attached and if you want to upload the gpx file I’ve just posted it on the FB page.
Upcoming Events
This weekend is the last long weekend till the end of the year so I hope you have some great plans to enjoy it. As KR I’m sure your plans will involve running whether it be the local parkrun on Saturday, going out on a long run with friends, or a local race somewhere. Of course, we will be there on Monday to help you finish your weekend with the KR10k.
Next KR long run will be Sunday 15th June with 10k, 20k and 30k options. Tully as co-opted some folks to lead in June, but if you’d like to lead in coming months, please see him as I know he is keen to get youinvolved.
Upcoming Races
Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)
Mini-Mos has offered KR a discount code to get 10% off the entry price. If you fancy a quick 10k on Sunday 15th June. Use code RUNNER10
The Bay to Bay Running Festival 2025 on Sunday 15th June has now sold out of marathon and half marathon entries, but the 12k is still open and still worth running. https://www.baytobay.org.au/
Real Insurance 10k and 5k on Sunday 27th July has just opened for registration. This is flat fast event along the harbour foreshore in the city. A great event that usually attracts a lot of the KRew to lace up and get out for a quick 5 or 10k. Make sure you mention that you are a Kirribilli Runner at registration. https://harbour10.com.au/harbour10/
City2Surf 2025 is now open and really selling fast. Latest is that C2S is now 95% sold out! Get in fast and join 60 or more of the KRew on the annual dash from the city to Bondi Beach. UPDATE: Tully informs me that they have now resolved the team issue for C2S and you can now join the KR Team.
Please write to Ironman Group at city...@theironmangroup.com with your full name that you used for registration and be part of the Kirribilli Runners.
Sydney Marathon has been moved to 31st August and the ballot entries have now closed and entries confirmed. If you missed out, consider becoming an official volunteer or coming down and supporting the KRew.
Bare Creek 20k Trail Race will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. This year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Garrigal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au
For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoy. https://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces
Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!
If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

Tuesday Speed Sessions these are held every Tuesday at the place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. All Welcome! See you there!
If you are bringing bags tonight, we will be there with a car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you!
That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.
Keep running @everyone and happy trails,
Steve
