Greetings KRew

Wow what a weekend! Sydney certainly was looking its best for the first time of being  a World Marathon Major. Let’s keep the party going and celebrate tonight by wearing our marathon finisher shirts for our annual Marathon T-Shirt Thursday. If you didn’t race on Sunday but were an official volunteer then you are encouraged to wear that shirt, or if you were one of the many official pacers wear that shirt, or if you have a previous years Sydney Marathon shirt wear that, or just your favourite race shirt and if you have none of those then Rep the Red.

What can you say about last Sunday, we had absolutely, perfect weather on a fast smooth course that wound its way through the best of everything Sydney has to offer. Having run the marathon most years since 2002, I can tell you that is the biggest crowds I have ever seen out cheering on the course. The biggest crowds I think since the Olympics in 2000.

There were so many achievements by the KRew on the day and you know, one of the best features of the Kirribilli Runners is how supportive we are of each other. It didn’t matter whether you ran a sub 3 marathon or a 6 hour plus marathon, the support and encouragement from the everyone in the club is the same. This is what makes us the best social running club around; we are always there for each other.

Talking of support, a big shout out to the KR official volunteers who gathered long before any of us were up, it was great to have you all out on the course. Then the many of the KRew who stood on the sidelines around the course always ready with a “GO KR!” as the runners went past.

The post-race gathering of over 40 people at the Lord Nelson, as is our tradition was amazing. So many stories of individual achievement and perseverance on the day, the support for each other and of course the refreshing brews.

Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

This Saturday the Sydney Marathon Run Club is holding the annual celebration at Squire’s Landing at The Rocks. Register on the link below, wear your finishers shirt and come along and celebrate your achievement with the greater Sydney Running Community.

The year in KR continues, next is the  Post-Marathon BBQ at Chinaman’s Beach on Saturday 13thSeptember at 1pm. See the invite from Greg for details.

Then on 11th October we will hold the Biennial KR Wine Tour. This event is only $70 for the bus and is limited to 40 people. So be quick and let Luzaan know if you are coming and she will put you on the list. (See event invite.)

A lot of fun and excitement coming up for the KRew, and doesn’t stop there, shortly I send out a save date for the annual KR Christmas Party for 2025 – stay tuned.

Still Time to be an Official Marathon Volunteer

If you sadly missed out on a place in the official for Sydney marathon, or was never planning to run it anyway but would like to be part of the excitement, then this is for you. Please speak to our volunteer coordinator Florence, or me and we will get you started.

KR turns 20 in 2026 – Entries Closed

Short List to be Issued this week. To celebrate our 20th Anniversary some of the very talented KRew has put together some designs and we are putting a short list together and will present the top ones to the club for you to have a say in which design we go with.

Upcoming Events

Next KR long run course is yet to be confirmed but save Sunday 21st September. See Tully if you want to help out with one of the distances on offer.

Upcoming Races

Bare Creek 20k Trail Race (ENTRIES NOW OPEN) will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. This year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Garrigal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au

For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoyhttps://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

Tuesday Speed Sessions these are held every Tuesday at the place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. All Welcome! See you there!

If you are bringing bags tonight, Trevor will be there with his car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Trevor much appreciated!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
