Greetings KRew

This week I thought I’d talk about the KR10k our popular Monday night run held each week taking us across the bridge through the Rocks into Walsh Bay and on to Barangaroo before turning and heading back to the crushed car and back over the bridge.

As I have talked about elsewhere, when I took over the leadership of Kirribilli Runners we only had one run a week and had more of reputation as a drinking club rather than a running club. So, in an effort, to put the ‘running’ back into Kirribilli Runners we developed a 10k course for Monday night.

The initial idea was that it would cater to those wanting to step up from the KRClassic, with Monday being a bit longer, and it would serve as a recovery run assuming that runners either raced or did their long runs on the Sunday. All were welcome but we indicated that everyone should be able to do about a 6min pace so that we could be done in just over an hour or so. We never enforce it though and continue to welcome everyone to join no matter what their pace is.

The course has changed a lot of over the years, and I’ve lost count of how many variations we have done due to the ever-changing restrictions we have endured as they were developing Barangaroo. Then there was redevelopment and closure of the wharves for about 2 years. This has posed KR with many challenges trying to keep with the ethos of making the course not include road crossings and still be about 10km. (As we all know the course is actually, 10.5km but we won’t quibble about the bonus 500m.)

What has stayed the same is every course goes out over the bridge and returns over the bridge. Every course has included running by the crushed car and up Pottenger St on the way back. Apart from when they were closed the wharves have always been included in several different configurations. And one point we had Stargazer as part of the course including one variation where we ran Stargazer twice in order to make the distance.

Now we have the current course with its journey through The Rocks, Walsh Bay Wharves, and out and back to the Casino in Barangaroo and return up Pottenger to the Bridge.

As we all know, runners are a competitive lot and love to push themselves against the course and each other. As long as runners are having fun then they will keep coming and pushing each other to always do better. Long live the KR10k held on each and every Monday night.

TCS Sydney Marathon Official Volunteers. KR has only 6 spots left for official volunteers for the marathon at the end of August. So please get in quick and be part of the KR Team who volunteering to help the event go smoothly. See or message Florence, Anel or myself for details. Will be a great day!

The lights of Vivid have been turned off for 2026 and I know we will all be happy to be back doing the KRClassic course. I checked it this morning and all is clear!

20th Anniversary Update

Last weekend we held the 2nd Annual KR Metro Crawl. A fun day with the KRew visiting 9 pubs using the Metro to move between them. Great to see so many come and join at various times throughout the day. Congratulations to Anel and Trevor true stayers who made to each pub and had a drink at each!

Stay tuned for the Al-mazing Race announcement!

The calendar of course, has all the regular KR runs as well as the major races that we will be following and promoting. We will add to the races as the year goes on. If you have a favourite race, then let me know and we can add it.

Upcoming Races

Paramatta Half is this Sunday, I know we have a lot of the KRew heading out there to Rep the Red. Good luck and GO WELL!!!

Another great local 10k race is the Real Insurance harbour 10k a flat fast course along the foreshore. So far we have 27 people in the KR team and would love to have you join us.

Next Sri Chinmoy race will be on Sunday the 12th July at Dolls Point for a half, 10k and 5k event. These races are a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, have various distances on offer and held in some of the most scenic parts of Sydney. https://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

If you are bringing bags tonight, Trevoris back and will be there with his car to hold them for you. As always please collect them straight after the finish photo. Thank you Trevor, much appreciated.

Regarding the bag drop, to help keep KR running smoothly I have asked Trevor to take on being the coordinator for Monday and Thursday nights to ensure there is a car to enable the bag drop. He has a group chat and would love to add you to it if you are able to help from time to time.

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.

Keep running @everyone and happy 20th Anniversary Kirribilli Runners!
