Greetings KRew

This weekend Sydney says farewell to Vivid until next year, and so tonight will be the last night of the variation run, well until Sydney throws some new festival at us and again closes the Cahill Express way. Please see below for the Vivid Variation course instructions.

Shirt News

I have now looked at what I have with 2XU shirts and if you are after one please message or write to me with what you are looing for. For those who have already reached out I will get in touch with you to organise.

And, as a last shout out, if you did order and pay for a 2XU shirt, make sure you reach out to me soonest to collect it.

City to Surf 2022 entries have now opened make sure you sign up soon and get your early bird discount and join the Kirribilli Runners team that I’ve created for us. So far we have over 50 people in the KR team who are excited to be Repping the Red on that iconic course heading to Bondi Beach. I’m sure the City Beach Hotel will be pleased to see the KRew back for a few bevies post the race!

In other racing news, this weekend is the Bay to Bay Half Marathon and 12km up in Gosford and a few of us are heading up there for a early morning run up the coast. It is a beautiful point to point course and well worth having an early morning for.

On July 24th there is the Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10k and 5k events, always a good turnout of the KRew and I believe Anthony is organising a team, so be on the lookout for that one. I suggest registering today as early bird discount finishes on Friday!

And, the big one coming up, is of course, Blackmores Running Festival in September. I’m sure that a lot of us will be doing that event and in fact are already in training for the marathon event! We will also be looking for volunteers, so if you are not running come along and give something back to your community!

For our first social event of the year we are looking at staying on this side of the harbour and have a gathering at the Treehouse shortly and a great chance to dress up in something that is not running gear and to be able to socialise with the KRew. Look out for more information from our social directors Judy Grobstein Edwards and Karin von Specht!

Joy will be back tonight and so if you are bringing a bag we will have a car there so you can store it whilst you run. Thanks to Matt whose car we have been using for the last few weeks.

We’ve made a booking at the pub and so we can gather at the pub for a post run bevy and then those who want to, head off to pizza at the KRew’s favourite pizza place! So post the run if you feel like a drink come and join us and put the social in social running club!

That’s it for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

 Keep running and happy trails,

Steve

Director

Vivid Variation Course Instructions

Below are the instructions for the course variation that we have now run for the last 4 weeks, it has been designed to keep us away from the madness of the Rocks, Circular Quay and the Opera House:

·       Start at usual place and time

·       Run across the bridge and down the steps

·       Bottom of steps turn left and run down the road

·       At the Harbour View Hotel cross the road and run through Dawes Point Reserve

·       Follow path down in front of the pylon to the water, admiring the light display on the pylon as you run past

·       Turn left go under bridge and follow the footpath along Hickson St all the way to entrance of Barangaroo (no wharves) and watch for people strolling enjoying the light show

·       At Barangaroo enter and run along the foot path staying to the left to avoid the people

·       Run along till you get to the end of the little wall that separates the paths which is at the cutting

·       U-turn at the end of the wall on to the other path and run back to entrance of Barangaroo

·       Come out of Barangaroo and turn right and go up the hill

·       Follow the road past The Palisade hotel and run across Kent St, using the pedestrian crossing

·       Keep going up the hill to the pedestrian tunnel under the bridge

·       At end turn right and go up the steps to the bridge

·       Run back to end of bridge and wait for the rest of the KRew

·       Join group photo and go to HQ

(If it helps to make it a bit clearer please see attached photo of the route.)

We will run this course from now until the end of Vivid 2022, but don’t worry it is an easy route and has the advantage of no Cahill!!!
