Greetings KRew

Unfortunately, as we all know, here in Sydney ‘stay at home’ orders have been extended to at least until at least 28 August! I do hope that you are all doing okay and that you have some support to help you through these hard times. This is especially true for those of us who live alone, as we are not able to socialise with our friends and family at this time.

For me personally, as I’ve talked about many times, I enjoy running with a friend each day and this has become a big part of my social life as well, of course, adding many many kilometres to my weekly total. The other big one has been the weekly KR Zoom call that Mick Chay has set up for us. If you’ve not joined it yet, this has been a fun chat each week with some of the KRew in a casual social setting, of well, your own home. So how ever you choose to socialise and look after you own physical and mental health, make sure you do what works for you. (See Mick’s invite on FB to join the call tonight.)

Talking about running each morning, what about sunrise yesterday? You probably have already seen that so many of the KRew loved and recorded, arguably, the sunrise of the season! Social media came alive with the incredible, magnificent, explosion of colours that greeted us early morning runners. It was so awesome to see the photos that people took during their run near the harbour, the city, and the ocean. Below are a few of the ones I took whilst out running at Balmoral Beach.

Running safely at night

Whilst out on an evening run I realised I was not alone! Sure enough it was dark, but in the dark were other people riding their bikes, walking their dogs and running along silently.

In mid-Winter it can be hard to make it out for a run before dark, but I thought that there has to be a better way, a safer way. I started to think about the top 10 tips for running safely at night and did some research and found a great article on this very topic. Irrespective of when you run, you will be sure to find a good tip or two.

Thanks Chris, a good tip, especially for many of the KRew who I know have a preference for running after work on the dark quiet winter streets.

Guest Writer on the Next Newsletter

Chris and I have been chatting to some of the KRew and a constant theme emerged and something we’ve not done before is that we are going to have a focus on women’s running in the newsletter throughout August. During the month we will cover topics like, running and pregnant, running and your period, running and sports bras and so forth.

I’ve enlisted Margriet to get us started, but also I’d like to hear from more of the women in the club. So please share your experiences and write something that I can publish here, or suggest any other topics that you’d like us cover!

Well that’s a wrap for another week, enjoy your KRClassic Virtual run today and don’t forget to share some photos with us all on the KR FB page.

Remember to take care of yourself and others. And wash your hands, wear a mask and remember to socially distance.

Happy trails,

Steve
