Greetings KRew

With this new very virulent COVID19 variation that is going around at the moment, we are making the very hard decision to cancel KR for tonight.

With the requirement to wear masks whilst outside in groups and the current very heightened awareness of how easy it is to transmit this virus, for all of our sakes we will not gather as a group for a run today.

I know that like me, you look forward to KRClassic each week, and enjoy both the running with your friends and socialising post an amazing run across the bridge. That being said I do still encourage you all to go out and so the KRClassic Virtual Edition and take and post some photos on our FB page.

We will be monitoring the situation closely and we will let you know what will happen with Monday nights KR10k and next weeks KRClassic.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions, or comment below.

Thanks for your understanding, stay safe and stay healthy!

Now, on a more upbeat note this week I’ve been speaking to KR regular who has been enjoying both the KRClassic and KR10k as well as the social side of KR, Maria about her running journey.

Your name and/or running nickname?

Maria. Lots of people tried giving me nicknames but they never sticked around. So just Maria!

How long have you been running?

On and off around 10 years, but, since joining KR, it has become significantly more fun!

What inspires you to keep running?

People and social elements of the group, Sydney is also very petty and it’s certainly more fun exploring it while you are running.

What’s the coolest place you have ever run?

I vividly remember my Moscow Park Run. I found it fascinating that I can do my Saturday morning parkrun almost in any country!

How do you feel at the start of a run?

Not great. I think it’s the most difficult thing to do after actually leaving a house. Things only get easier past that point.

When you see another runner coming towards you, what do you do?

Smile :)

What’s the most interesting thing that has ever happened to you whilst running?

I had to do some dog rescuing the other week. Returned an unattended puppy back to its owners after it learnt to jump over the fence of the property on a busy road.

What do your friends think of your running?

Oh crazy Maria. I guess they should become friends with you, Steve. It will definitely help with a prospective!

What do you do with your clothes immediately after you get home from a run?

Laundry…?

What’s the one thing you wish you’d been told before you started running?

Buy good shoes. It will pay off!

Thank you for sharing Maria, that’s pretty cool doing a parkrun in Moscow, and as you say one of the best things about running is that you can do it anywhere, anytime, just awesome!

The Truth Behind ‘Runner’s High’ and Other Mental Health Benefits of Running

Recently I find myself watching the news closely and maybe, like me, you are feeling a little apprehensive about upcoming races and group running events. The good news is that these feelings are quite normal, the concerns are real, and we can continue to run.

It did get me thinking though what happens to brain during a run? Are there long-term mental health benefits to regular running?

After a little research I found this interesting article by David J. Linden from John Hopkins University, about the benefits of running and how it helps good mental health. If you had any doubts about the benefits of running, or just want a little bit more information, then read on.

Thanks Chris and I agree the mental health benefits of running are awesome!

Well that’s a wrap for another week.

Remember to take care of yourself and others.

Happy trails,

Steve
