Greetings KRew

Recently I was listening to a podcast from the ABC called “Treadmills Were Made for Torture” which got my attention because like basically every runner ever, I do not like Treadmills. They are not fun to run on, it becomes boring and as someone once quipped; “You don’t know how long a minute is until you have run one on a treadmill.”

The treadmill has a long and sordid history being used for torture and punishment. Now in the 21st Century we use them voluntarily when we can’t run outside, we use them we travel, some even have them in their own home, to keep the legs turning over when other options are not available, they are great…. but….

KR turns 20 in 2026

Next year Kirribilli Runners we will be celebrating 20 years of being the best social running club in Sydney. To help us celebrate we want to release a special 20th Anniversary edition of the famous Red Shirt.

This is where YOU come in, are you a designer, or know someone who is who can help us design the 20thAnniversary special logo, then please contact me urgently.  Voting will open soon.

KR Donation to Shoes for Planet Earth

A big shout out to the official volunteers for the Hoka Half in May, like in previous years the club is offered a donation for each volunteer that KR provides. Like last year, as KR doesn’t have a bank account, we’ve donated the money to Shoes for Planet Earth. This is an awesome charity that collects used running shoes and send them to various country for people who can’t afford shoes. If you have shoes you have used but are still good for others, then please check out the link:

Volunteers for Sydney Marathon

If you’d like to be an official volunteer for Sydney Marathon, please see the KR volunteer coordinator Florence who would love to get you involved.

Upcoming Events

KR long run is this Sunday 20th July and will be the annual City2Surf Sneak Peak. Starting at 8am at the usual place. If you’d like to lead one of the pace groups, please see Tully as I know he is keen to get YOUinvolved.

Upcoming Races

Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)

Real Insurance 10k and 5k on this Sunday 27th July is open for registration. This is flat fast event along the harbour foreshore in the city. A great event that usually attracts a lot of the KRew to lace up and get out for a quick 5 or 10k. Post race brunch place to be announced.  https://harbour10.com.au/harbour10/

City2Surf 2025 is now open and really selling fast. Latest is that C2S is now sold out! UPDATE: Please send your name to Tully but is has to be the exact name you used to register for C2S. Once he has them he will send the list to organisers, and we will be an awesome team!!

Sydney Marathon is now only 5 weeks away and the ballot entries have long been closed and entries confirmed. If you missed out, consider becoming an official volunteer or coming down and supporting the KRew.

Bare Creek 20k Trail Race will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. This year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Garrigal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au

For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoyhttps://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

Tuesday Speed Sessions these are held every Tuesday at the place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. All Welcome! See you there!

If you are bringing bags tonight, Trevor will be there with his car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Trevor much appreciated!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
