Greetings KRew

After a long three weeks, Vivid has turned off its’ last light and left our KRClassic course for another year, so we are back tonight! It will be great to be able to run again as a large group and I’m looking forward to seeing all the KRew back together again.

Tonight we are having a visit from the Sydney Marathon Ambassador Nick Youngquest, who was one of the hosts for the Sydney Marathon Training run that a contingent of the KRew did last week in Coogee.

As we all know this year there are big changes in the Sydney Marathon as it is a candidate race to become part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, which is exciting for the race and the city.

I know that many of the KRew have already signed up for the race and are very excited to be running on the new course.

So come along meet Nick who will do a little talk before take off and will be joining us on our iconic course.

Sydney Marathon Training Run by ASICS, last weekend was another big weekend for the KRew with a contingent heading off to Coogee to join with other running clubs from around Sydney for a long training run and talk about training and preparation for the upcoming marathon. In great news our own long time KR Agnes won herself a new pair of ASICs shoes!

Gosford was hosting the 2023 Bay to Bay Half Marathon and we had 8 of the KRew up there early in the morning to run from Woy Woy to Gosford on a very scenic and relatively flat course. Was a perfect day for the race and I know we all enjoyed it very much.

And if that wasn’t enough we also had 5 people taking on the very challenging and ultimately rewarding, Glow Worm Tunnel Marathon (yes you do run through a tunnel with glow worms). This is one of the hardest local marathons around and a big congratulations to those who ran it on the weekend.

Wine Tour 16 July! DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND WE HAVE A BIGGER BUS!

Yes we have now booked a bigger bus and it is time to register for the Wine Tour, very simple, just click the link register and we will send you the bank account details to make your payment. KR Long Run The next KR long run is on Sunday 9th July at 7am. This time we are going to be doing a City2Surf sneak preview, starting in the usual place. The KRew will run from the step to Park St and follow the iconic course to Bondi Beach and then return via Bondi Junction

Tuesday Speed Sessions Most of you know we hold a speed session on Tuesday nights at Gore Hill Oval starting at 6:30pm. It is great to see about 14 or 15 people coming each week to work on their speed and push themselves on the various sessions that we do. All are welcome and for more details please message me directly. This week we will be doing 5 by 1km repeats with active recovery.

Upcoming Events

Gold Coast Marathon, I know there are few folks signing up to the Gold Coast Marathon on either the Half or the Full marathon and some folks doing both events on the weekend. I did this last year and it was a great weekend on a fast flat course, and they give you really good bling and a shirt! Only one week to go now!

Real Insurance 5k and 10k on 23 July will see many of the KRew go out and push their limits on this extremely flat and fast course. Last year I watched a lot of KRs finishing this race with everyone reporting an awesome experience and right here on the harbour front. https://sydneyharbour10k.com.au

City2Surf entries are now open! This is always a big KR event where we will end up at the Beach Road Hotel after the race. We have a team so search for Kirribilli Runners in the team list and make sure you join when you sign up.

Sydney Running Festival in on Sunday 17 Sep 23! Never too early to sign up for the marathon and get your training program sorted. I have started a KR group so make sure you join the KRew team!

If you are bringing bags tonight, then the ever-reliable Helena will be there with her car to hold them whilst you run.  (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you Helena, as always, really awesome!!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
