Greetings KRew

Only one week till the biggest marathon event ever seen here in Australia, nearly 18,000 runners will gather in Bradfield Park next Sunday 17th September and start their 42.2km journey to the Opera House seeing some of the best views that Sydney has to offer. I know that the KRew have been spending the last few months training hard with long runs, speed sessions and for the super keen hill training too.

The KR Team is now about 60 of us who will be taking on either the 10km, Half Marathon and Full Marathon events. We will have 7 official volunteers at the start line helping marshal everyone to safely start the race. Then we will have out supporters, all of our families and friends who will be out on the day cheering us as we run and finish the race.

Post the race we will be gathering at the Lord Nelson Hotel to celebrate all of our great runs, show off our new shiny medals and buy me a beer to celebrate my BIG BIRTHDAY!! A few of us have made some bookings so should be plenty of space for everyone to come along.

Volunteering Opportunities at Sydney Marathon. There is still time to volunteer if you are not running on the day, so please let Helen know if you are able to help out. It is always a fun time for the volunteers and a bonus of giving back to the running community.

KR Merch Delivery Update I know everyone is excited for the next delivery of the awesome KR shirts and tops. I have spoken to Jason at Sub4 and he assures me that they are being posted this week. So fingers crossed we will all have our near gear in time for the marathon!

Update on Anthony: As many of you have seen and indeed spoken to, Anthony is definitely on the mend and great to see him up and about. The money that was raised between, Delta, Rhodes Runners and Kirribilli Runners is being used to help with Anthony’s rehabilitation needs.

As a thank you, Anthony has invited everyone to come over and say hello at his home on Saturday 23rd September. I will send an invite with the address and details shortly.

Sydney Half that was held at Sydney Olympic Park last Sunday was a great success and a stunning day for a final tune up before the big one next week. I know the KRew that went had a great time, with a few grabbing some PBs on a relatively flat fast course. Well done everyone, awesome repping the Red!!

Tuesday Speed Sessions Most of you know we hold a speed session on Tuesday nights at Gore Hill Oval starting at 6:30pm. It is great to see about 14 or 15 people coming each week to work on their speed and push themselves on the various sessions that we do. All are welcome and for more details please message me directly.

Upcoming Events

Last Sydney Marathon Training Group Run This Sunday will the last of the Sydney Training group runs starting in Centennial Park and running the last section of the course to the Opera House. I know that many of the KRew have been enjoying these long training runs, running with their KR friends, and making new ones from other clubs around Sydney. Please see the post from Helena for more details.

Sydney Running Festival is on Sunday 17 Sep 23. The organisers are trying to get our race to qualify as an Abbot World Marathon and join the likes of New York, Berlin and Boston as a truly world class event. To do this they are wanting to get 15,000 people to finish the race, and so it will be the biggest marathon event ever held in Australia, so don’t miss out and sign up today.

Also coming up on 22 October is the Panorama Punish which is a run of a Lap of Mount Panorama in Bathurst, I know we have some keen runners heading there to show how the Red take on the famed circuit.

In October is the Melbourne Marathon which I understand is sold out, but I know we have a few KR heading down there, so we will follow their progress as they take on the course. It is a great course that I highly recommend, and great atmosphere.

For the super keen, the second running of the Bondi to Manly Ultra is being held on 28th October. I understand there are still a few slots open on the full thing, and if you want to only run a few stages, then get a team together and enter the relay. After last years event I highly recommend the race, and I’m looking forward to doing it again this year.

If you are bringing bags tonight, this week Mark will be there with his car to hold them whilst you run.  (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Mark, much appreciated!!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
