Greetings KRew

Okay, that may be a little dramatic for the first KRClassic after the end of daylight savings… but it was pretty dark at 6:30pm on Tuesday night at our weekly KR Speed Session at Gore Hill Oval. This week we are back to having the run in the dark and that will be how it is until at least September.

However, the light, or lack thereof, does not deter the KRew who will run each Monday and Thursday through the depth of winter as running never stops. This is of course, also peak racing season with it really hitting off this weekend with the Canberra Running Festival and going all the way through to Melbourne Marathon in October. Many of us have signed up for many races in the next few months and take every opportunity to get more miles under our feet by running all through Winter enjoying the cold dark mornings, stormy evenings and that awesome Sydney Winter sunrise with crystal clear skies.

This weekend as mentioned above, a small but keen contingent of the KRew are heading to Canberra to race in the marathon or half-marathon around the Nations Capital. This is always good race, well organised, on the clean traffic free streets around the parliamentary triangle. This year we are running on a new course and I’m looking forward to not having to run up and down the Tuggeranong-parkway in face of Black Mountain. Go well all who are coming and good luck.

20th Anniversary Update

The fun and celebrations don’t stop, we still have more activities lined up so check out the 2026 KR Calendar. This weekend, Luzaan and I will spend a bit of time on the upcoming events and start to promote the many exciting things that we have coming up.

The calendar of course, has all the regular KR runs as well as the major races that we will be following and promoting. We will add to the races as the year goes on. If you have a favourite race, then let me know and we can add it.

Upcoming Events

Monthly Long Run Sunday. The next long run will be 19 April the weekend after Canberra Running Festival. Tully will be issuing the course next week so come along and enjoy a good long run with the KRew. Distances on offer are 10k, 20k, 30k.

Tuesday Speed Sessions. We will be meeting at 6:30pm at the usual spot at Gore Hill Oval. It is open to all and if you want to know more details, please reach out to me.

Upcoming Races

As a hint check out the new Paramatta Half held in June which should be a good race to head out west for. They’ve just released the new course.

Another great local 10k race is the Real Insurance harbour 10k a flat fast course along the foreshore. So far we have 21 people in the KR team and would love to have you join us.

For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoy. https://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

If you are bringing bags tonight Trevor has promised to bring his car to hold them for you. As always please collect them straight after the photo. Thank you, Trevor, much appreciated.

Regarding the bag drop, to help keep KR running smoothly I have asked Trevor to take on being the coordinator for Monday and Thursday nights to ensure there is a car to enable the bag drop. He has a group chat and would love to add you to it if you are able to help from time to time.

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.

Keep running @everyone and happy 20th Anniversary Kirribilli Runners!
