Greetings KRew

Here we are with less than a week till Christmas, so tonight we have the Annual Santa Run, come dressed in your favourite Santa suit, of Santa Hat, Antlers or Elf ears and join in the fun and ring the bells for our group run.

Last Sunday we had the Annual KR KRistmas Party at Clark Park in Lavender Bay and it was terrific time and a lot of fun. We had about 65 people join us to share food and drink and sample some of the delicious cakes and deserts on offer from the entrants to the Great KR Bakeoff.

This year as I said last week we retired the old KR Club Person of the Year trophy and have a shiny new trophy called: “Kirribilli Runners Directors’ Perpetual Trophy for KR Club Member of the Year” It was decided that changing the word Person to Member makes the award more inclusive and a member of a part of group that is Kirribilli Runners.

This year the KR Club Member of the Year for 2024 I’m very happy to announce is Tully Stanley. Tully has been part of KR for coming up 3 years and since he started got into the spirit of the club and became a very active member that has never waned. A while ago I asked Tully if he would like to join the committee and act as back up for Brian running KR10k on Monday nights. Tully fully embraced being part of the committee and not only has he hosted both Monday and Thursday night when Brian and I have been away, he has taken a very active role in communications for the club on Facebook and in various messenger groups that we have. He is also a very keen promoter of the club, and it seems like every weekend he is out somewhere with his partner Grace Repping the Red at some race somewhere.

Please join me in congratulating Tully on his win and I look forward to his ongoing contributions to Kirribilli Runners in 2025.

As always we also had some fun awards to some of the great people we are fortunate to be able to share this club with. Honestly, I would love to be able to give everyone an award as each and every person makes a valuable contribution to the life of KR. Unfortunately, I can’t, and these awards are designed to recognise just a few people for the wonderful contributions they make to the life of the club.

Upcoming Events

On Monday 23rd, Brian will be hosting the annual KR10k Beverage Run, with stops at a few pubs along the course. This was done last year for the first time and was great fun. So stay tuned for more details.

The good news is that, as always, KR will continue over the KRistmas seasonKR10k will be held on Mondays as usual and KRClassic will on Thursday. BUT as Boxing Day is on a Thursday this year we will do a morning edition of the KRClassic and allow everyone to spend the rest of the day with their friends and families. I’m thinking of meeting at 7:30am we can run the Classic and maybe get coffee afterwards.

Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)

Sun Run opened this week with early bird entry, always a great way to kick off the year of racing with a quick 10k dash from Dee Why to Manly. https://www.sunrun.com.au/

Canberra Marathon 2025 registration is now open. I’m expecting a big contingent of the KRew will be heading to Canberra for this beautiful Autumn Day run through our Nation’s Capitol. The Canberra Times Marathon Festival 2025 | Sole Motive

The Hoka Half in May is now open and you better be quick as the 10k race has already sold out. https://runawaysydneyhalf.com.au/

Of course, there are many many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many was think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. https://www.runningcalendar.com.au/

Tuesday Speed Sessions have finished for 2024 but stay tuned as they will be back in January 2025.

If you are bringing bags tonight, Evelyn Lengua has volunteered to be there with her car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Evelyn, very much appreciated!!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
