Greetings KRew
As those who have been with us for a while would know, from time to time, due to safety concerns, such as large crowds around the Opera House, or parts of the course being closed we must change the regular route. This is particularly true when Vivid is on and there are potentially large crowds of folks along our regular courses.
Some of you may recall that 3 years ago we closed the club down for 3 weeks as we couldn’t find a safe route to run as the various Vivid installations spread from the Opera House to Darling Harbour. Naturally, we didn’t want to do this every year and so we developed 2 alternative courses that mean we can keep running both the Monday and Thursday nights. The courses are designed to ensure that 40 to 80 KR runners, in bright red shirts, don’t try to negotiate their way through large crowds of people standing around gawking at the pretty lights.
As you may be aware, in the past we have had complaints from the public about our runners hitting or nearly hitting people walking around. You will recall I wrote about an incident we had a few months ago. We don’t want to get to a point where we get official complaints and we have to cancel nights due to the course not being safe to negotiate, especially when we have perfectly good and safe alternatives that we can use.
Therefore, the KR Committee ask that each and every person in KR follow these alternate courses. We never do it lightly when we decide to change the course, but when we must, it is only ever for safety reasons.
Tonight’s run will be the first of the KRClassic Vivid Variation Runs. Below is map of the run and I’ve included the link to the GPX file on our FB page. The course is quite easy follow and a bit of fun as a variation.

If you haven’t signed up already for City2Surf then get on to it as it is selling fast. If you have signed up and didn’t enter as part of the KR team then let Tully know and he can help you with ensuring you are part of the KR team. As you C2S is one of the biggest KR race events on the calendar and we always have a huge group at the start and then gathering at the Beach Road Hotel for the traditional post-race drink and debrief.
20th Anniversary Update
Luzaan and I have managed to get together and discussed the upcoming 20th Anniversary events. I’m pleased to announce that we have confirmed the KR Metro Shuffle for 2026 starting at 11am on 13th June.
This was a very popular social event last year as used the Metro from Sydenham to Chatswood stopping at each station for a drink at a local establishment. This year we will start at the General Gordon opposite Sydenham Station. We have lined us different pubs this year so join for the whole event, or just part of it up to you. But come along!
Stay tuned for the Al-mazing Race announcement!
The calendar of course, has all the regular KR runs as well as the major races that we will be following and promoting. We will add to the races as the year goes on. If you have a favourite race, then let me know and we can add it.
Upcoming Events
Monthly Long Run Sunday. After last week’s very successful long run, we will be doing it again on Sunday 21st June. Save the date!
Tuesday Speed Sessions. We will be meeting at 6:30pm at the usual spot at Gore Hill Oval. It is open to all and if you want to know more details, please reach out to me.
Upcoming Races
Next weekend there are a few races on with Wollongong Running Festival that I know a bunch of KR are heading down for. It is currently 80% full so spots still available. See Tully who is the local ambassador for the festival and he can share a discount code that makes it’s a cheap local race

Check out the new Paramatta Half held in June which should be a good race to head out west for. They’ve just released the new course. Now sold out!
Another great local 10k race is the Real Insurance harbour 10k a flat fast course along the foreshore. So far we have 26 people in the KR team and would love to have you join us.
Next Sri Chinmoy race will be on 7th June at Iron Cove for a 7k and 21k event. These races are a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, have various distances on offer and held in some of the most scenic parts of Sydney. https://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces
Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!
If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

If you are bringing bags tonight we will have car to hold them for you. As always please collect them straight after the photo.
Regarding the bag drop, to help keep KR running smoothly I have asked Trevor to take on being the coordinator for Monday and Thursday nights to ensure there is a car to enable the bag drop. He has a group chat and would love to add you to it if you are able to help from time to time.
That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.
Keep running @everyone and happy 20th Anniversary Kirribilli Runners!
