Greetings KRew

In case you missed it, next Wednesday entries open for City2Surf 2025. We expect one of the biggest races in the world to sell out fast. If you want to secure your spot as a preferred, red or green group runner I suggest you get in quick, grab your group and get those early bird discounts. Don’t forget to join the KR Team that will be set up by whoever register’s first.

The Global Running Community, is huge, as I’m sure you all know. I was thinking about this overnight as I was following the 2025 Barkley Marathon held in Tennessee USA this is 100mile 5 loop course that must be completed in 60 hours, that is rated as the hardest race in the world. (Always a debatable claim, but in this case would be up there. Look up the Yukon.) No GPS, no phones, no trail markings, no trails, just guts, determination and a map and compass. 40 people started, most didn’t complete the first lap and currently only 3 left in the race on the third loop for what is called the ‘Fun Run’.

Of course, there are many races around the world from the 5k parkrun to these extreme ultra marathons like the Barkley. In Kirribilli Runners we’ve had many of us Rep the Red in various races all over the world and you just never know where one of the KRew will show up next.

If it is you who is our next overseas Rep, make sure you share with us all on FB and Strava, we will all love to cheer you on!

Upcoming Events

The next TCS Sydney Marathon Run Club training run will be held on 30th March, to avoid disappointment make sure you sign up not for this free event now.

Next KR long run will be Sunday 27th April., pushed out one week due to clashing with Easter. If you would like to lead one of the groups for any of the distances, please see Tully I know he is keen to get you involved.

Upcoming Races

Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)

The Women’s Nike Reclaim The Night Run, registrations have now closed. I hope a few the KRew have made it in the race and I look forward to hearing about how it goes.

Canberra Marathon 2025 is only a few weeks away now and still spots available. I’m expecting a big contingent of the KRew will be heading to Canberra for this beautiful Autumn Day run through our Nation’s Capital. https://solemotive.com/pages/canberra-times-marathon-festival

The Hoka Half in May has sold out, so if you missed out try again now or consider becoming one of our official volunteers or coming down and support the KRew running this iconic event. https://runawaysydneyhalf.com.au/

The Bay to Bay Running Festival 2025 on Sunday 15th June has just opened registrations. This is a hugely popular event that runs from Woy Woy to Gosford and last year was a sellout. I know a lot of the KRew will want to do this race, so sign up now and join the Kirribilli Runners team for a great morning of running on the central coast. https://www.baytobay.org.au/

Sydney Marathon, has been moved to 31st August and the ballot entries have now closed and entries confirmed. If you missed out, consider becoming an official volunteer or coming down and supporting the KRew.

Bare Creek 20k Trail Race will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. But as a club we haven’t really supported any of the many trail races that are on around Sydney. So this year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Gariybv gal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au

For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoyhttps://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

Tuesday Speed Sessions these are led by either Scott, or myself and are held every Tuesday at the place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. See you there!

If you are bringing bags tonight, Evelyn we will be there with her car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you Evelyn, very much appreciated!!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
