(Editor Note: for some reason this didn't post yesterday and reporting now.)

 Greetings KRew

I’ve got myself a bit behind and so it will just be a short newsletter this week, normal service will be resumed next week.

There are a couple of upcoming events to be aware of and look to sign up for or attend. Firstly this weekend one of our Thursday regulars and recently profiled Vanessa is running her 50th parkrun at North Sydney on Saturday. (Check out her invite on this page for details.)

On Sunday is the Sydney10 out at Sydney Olympic park and I know a lot of the KRew will be there repping the Red and looking for some PBs on a smooth flat course. Also on Sunday for the more adventurous, Sri Chinmoy have their next event at Royal National Park which includes; a 5k, 10k, half and a full marathon. I will be attending this event and doing the marathon, which is two loops of lady Carrington Drive, a beautiful fire trail in the heart of the park.

The SMH Half Marathon who have now confirmed the race will be held on 27 June, this is always a big event on the KR calendar with a lot of the KRew already registered and ready to race. The race will be followed by our traditional brunch that last time, if I recall we had about 30 folks attend.

Lastly on a social note we are planning a Saturday evening gathering on the 15th of May, this will be a relaxed affair at one of the local watering holes, always a great way to meet and mix with your fellow running buddies. (Stay tuned for the details and mark your calendars.)

Tonight is KRClassic, and as usual Joy and I will be there from about 6:15pm or so to welcome you and while some folks are still running out in smaller groups, as restrictions have really eased we are heading back to having the whole group start at 6:40pm. But, no matter whether you want to start a bit earlier, or at the more traditional time of 6:40pm, Joy will be there with her car to store your bags should you need it. Can I ask though, that you please have your bags stored by 6:40pm so that we can all head out for a run across the bridge?

And can I also ask that you please register your attendance at this link:

Or I will have a QR code tonight for you to register as you arrive.

Also as the COVID rules are relaxing a few of the KRew are starting to head back to the Kirribilli Hotel for a beer or two before pizza which is great. So whatever you choose I do hope that you can stay socialise with the KR post the run!

Listening to your body

I have recently seen some amazing improvements in the fitness of our running community, but those improvements do come with a cautionary note, and it’s about listening to your body.

In a situation a running buddy shared with me, they had been working hard to improve their performance and incurred a minor muscle strain. They didn’t really give it enough time to heal and decided to work through it. Over the next few weeks their body had compensated for the injury by simply strengthening the use of the other leg.

Unfortunately, they now have other problems they can’t ignore, resulting in a longer recovery period. So this got me thinking and after some research found this great article on listening to your body.

Thanks Chris good advice to listen to your body and to be on the look out for warning signs.

Well that’s a wrap for another week.

Remember to take care of yourself and others.

Happy trails,

Steve
