Greetings KRew

Last Saturday saw the shortest day of the year for 2024 fade and from now on mornings will be a bit lighter and evenings will be longer, surely worthy of celebrating. Of course it doesn’t mean the days will get warmer, just yet. On these cold nights there is always a warm welcome at Kirribilli Runners. At 6:30pm we will gather again at the steps of the bridge ready to run the KRClassic across the most photographed bridge in the world and around the most recognisable Opera House in the world. Followed by fun and drinks at the KH and pizza at the KR favourite pizza shop.

On Tuesday a dedicated group of KR assembled at Gore Hill Oval for a 5k time trial. This is a test we set ourselves to see how our speed and interval training is progressing, and bench mark ourselves. It was perfect weather for running, dry, cool and low humidity and everyone had a good session.

This sort of training is very important part of everyone’s training schedule as it really helps to get your fast twitch fibres in your muscles working, as well as working on your recovery.  KR does a speed and interval session every week at Gore Hill Oval and everyone is welcome, just show up and enjoy a session of pushing yourself!

Upcoming Events

Next KR long run will be Sunday 20th July and will be the annual City2Surf Sneak Peak. If you’d like to lead one of the pace groups, please see Tully as I know he is keen to get YOU involved.

It was great seeing over 20 KR turn up on Sunday for the Marathon Run Club Run with the KRew taking on a flat 23k around the harbour on a perfect morning for a run. The next TCS Sydney Marathon Run Club event will be on 13th July but keep an eye on their page for more details.

Upcoming Races

Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)

Real Insurance 10k and 5k on Sunday 27th July is open for registration. This is flat fast event along the harbour foreshore in the city. A great event that usually attracts a lot of the KRew to lace up and get out for a quick 5 or 10k. Make sure you mention that you are a Kirribilli Runner at registration. https://harbour10.com.au/harbour10/

City2Surf 2025 is now open and really selling fast. Latest is that C2S is now sold out! UPDATE: Tully informs me that they have now resolved the team issue for C2S and you can now join the KR Team. Please send your name to Tully but is has to be the exact name you used to register for C2S. Once he has them he will send the list to organisers, and we will be an awesome team!!

Sydney Marathon has been moved to 31st August and the ballot entries have now closed and entries confirmed. If you missed out, consider becoming an official volunteer or coming down and supporting the KRew.

Bare Creek 20k Trail Race will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. This year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Garrigal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au

For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoyhttps://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

Tuesday Speed Sessions these are held every Tuesday at the place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. All Welcome! See you there!

If you are bringing bags tonight, Trevor will be there with his car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Trevor much appreciated!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
