Greetings KRew

I’ve often been asked why KR has never had any fees or joining processes etc. This is true, in the 20 years that we have existed we have never asked members for any money. Any money we do raise is for something specific like a charity and then we do it through one of the fund-raising sites.

One of the reasons, is that as soon as you involve money you need to have process and procedures and structure in place. The club would need to be incorporated and have a formal committee structure. More importantly KR would need to offer something for the money being asked for, such as more formal training, race organisation and so forth.

All of which might be a good idea, but it all requires lots of work and lots of volunteers to be involved. So, we keep KR simple, as I have written elsewhere, we offer 3 free runs per week, with Monday 10k, Tuesday Speed Session and Thursday the KRClassic. Once per month we offer a long run with different distance options. All of these events are organised by a very small band of volunteers that work hard to keep the club going.

Yet KR, without all the overheads, manages to be one of the most dynamic and recognised clubs in Sydney. I know from races I’ve done in far flung places, getting a “Go KR” cheer and many others in the KRew have had the same experience. We all heard it last Sunday at the finish line of the Harbour10, every KR that crossed the line got a “another Kirribilli Runner is finishing”.

KR stays free, stays simple, stays social and all we ask is that you come along, join in our runs and enjoy the amazing views and keep the club a happy positive experience for all.

The KR Shop is now closed, and I expect the new shirts etc to arrive around mid to late September.

TCS Sydney Marathon Official Volunteers. KR has only a few spots left for official volunteers for the marathon at the end of August. So please get in quick and be part of the KR Team who volunteering to help the event go smoothly. See or message Florence, Anel or myself for details. Will be a great day!

20th Anniversary Update

KRristmas in July 2025. Come along this Friday the 31st July and join the KRew for KRistmas in July party. We are meeting at Traders Bar on Hay St, Haymarket from 6pm. Come along dressed in your best KRistmas Hat or full Santa Suit and let’s PARTY! See you there!

The Al-mazing Race we have decided to delay this event for now, but we still intend to hold at some point in the future.

The calendar of course, has all the regular KR runs as well as the major races that we will be following and promoting. We will add to the races as the year goes on. If you have a favourite race, then let me know and we can add it.

Upcoming Events

KR Monthly Long Run after the very successful City2Surf Sneak Peek last week I’m sure the KRew is all ready for the City2Surf on 9th August. The next monthly long run will be Sunday 16th August, stay tuned for details.

Tuesday Speed Sessions. We will be meeting at 6:30pm at the usual spot at Gore Hill Oval. It is open to all and if you want to know more details, please reach out to me.

Upcoming Races

Real Insurance harbour 10k well done to all who raced and supported this race last weekend. Was a great morning with some super fast times being achieved by everyone up and down the field!

City2Surf is coming up in less than two weeks’ time. Pre-race we will do the annual photo by the Archibold Fountain in Hyde Park gathering for the photo at 6:45am. This allows for plenty of time for everyone get a good position in their allocated wave. Post the race we will head to the usual Beach Road Hotel and meet upstairs for the usual post-race drinks, and festivities.

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

If you are bringing bags tonight, Trevor will be there with his car to hold them for you. As always please collect them straight after the finish photo. Thank you, Trevor, much appreciated.

Regarding the bag drop, to help keep KR running smoothly I have asked Trevor to take on being the coordinator for Monday and Thursday nights to ensure there is a car to enable the bag drop. He has a group chat and would love to add you to it if you are able to help from time to time.

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.

Keep running @everyone and happy 20th Anniversary Kirribilli Runners!
