Greetings KRew

Today is the UN World Mental Health Day a day for everyone to reflect on mental health and our own individual journeys. We all know someone, or ourselves who have struggled with mental health issues and how hard it is to get out from that spiral. We as runners know that running has many benefits that are both physical and mental and that regular running and being outside is a great way to help yourself and encourage others.

I did some digging around about the benefits of running on mental health and found this article from Runners World magazine. The article lists the many benefits of running on mental health including:

·       Lifting your mood

·       Reducing stress

·       Building mental resilience

·       Improving brain function

·       Mindfulness

Just to name a few. I hope you enjoy the article as you think about your own mental health journey.

Coming up this weekend is the Melbourne Marathon and running festival. I think we have about 20 folks heading down to race the smooth flat course along the streets in Melbourne, taking in the length of the tree lined St Kilda Road, a hot lap of Albert Park and then along the bay side out to Port Melbourne and down to Brighton before finishing on the hallowed turf of the MCG.

We wish you all well and if you want to meet up with your other KR buddies down there, please see Brian or Tully who are organising some gatherings for the KRew and friends. Go you good things!!

Upcoming Events

Next social event will be the Annual Halloween dress up run on Thursday 31 October. This year KRClassic falls on All Hallows Eve and so come along for a spooky edition of the KRClassic followed by our usual beer and pizza.

KR Christmas Party: This year the annual KR Christmas Party will be held on 15th December at Clark Park. We will start to gather in the usual place in the top park from about midday and please bring some food share and whatever you’d like to drink. We will be doing our prize giving and naming the KR Club Person of the Year for 2024. Save the date in your diary now.

Of course, there are many many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many was think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. https://www.runningcalendar.com.au/

Tuesday Speed Sessions, every week as most of you know we hold a speed session on Tuesday nights at Gore Hill Oval starting at 6:30pm. It is great to see about 14 or 15 people coming each week to work on their speed and push themselves on the various sessions that we do. All are welcome and for more details please message me directly.

If you are bringing bags tonight, social secretary extraordinaire Greg has volunteered to be there with his car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Greg, very much appreciated!!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
