Easter Greetings KRew

I hope everyone has been having a great morning and not fallen for too many April Fools Day tricks and jokes so far? What is not a joke or a trick is that KR will be on tonight for a pre-Easter long weekend jaunt across the bridge. Which of course, is the perfect way to go into the long weekend.

One little plug for a race, a Sri Chinmoy race is on in Centennial Park on Easter Monday. I’ve personally signed up for the half and know a few others have as well. There are also the options for a 7km and 14km race if you want something a little shorter. So come along and rep the Red in the Park and, of course it is a great way to run off the excess of chocolate and Hot Cross Buns from Easter.

As usual tonight, Joy and I will get there about 6pm to welcome you and we are still running out in smaller groups so as to spread the Red Shirts out on the bridge, although as restrictions are really coming off we are heading back to the group start at 6:40pm. But no matter whether you want to start a bit earlier, or at the more traditional time of 6:40pm, I will be there to see you, and Joy will be there with her car to store your bags should you need it. Can I ask though, that you please have your bags stored by 6:40pm so that we can all head out for a run across the bridge?

And can I also ask that you please register your attendance at this link:

https://kirribillirunners.org/covid/

Or I will have a QR code tonight for you to register as you arrive.

Also as the COVID rules are relaxing a few of the KRew are starting to head back to the Kirribilli Hotel for a beer or two before pizza which is great. So whatever you choose I do hope that you can stay socialise with the KR post the run!

This week I’ve had a chat with Simon who has been coming to KR for quite a while and enjoying the both the KRClassic course and KR10k course, about his running journey.

Your name and/or running nickname?

Simon Cooper or “Coops” if you like.

How long have you been running?

Properly for 16 years. I played a lot of rugby and football growing up so it was only after I had less time for that and got a proper pair of shoes that I started into running.

What inspires you to keep running?

Just keeping good physical and mental health i.e. keeps my belly down and de-stresses me!

What’s the coolest place you have ever run?

I did my first – and only – marathon in 2010 for the London Marathon so that course is pretty cool. Full of characters including a one point a guy carrying a fridge running past me. I finished with a 3 hr 42 min time though.

How do you feel at the start of a run?

“Let’s get this over with” but then “a yes I am looking forward to hearing this pod cast and/or mix on Spotify”.

When you see another runner coming towards you, what do you do?

A polite English nod. Although if it’s someone wearing the red KR shirt I like to say “GO KR!” nice and loud!

What’s the most interesting thing that has ever happened to you whilst running?

I nearly got into a fight with a Kangaroo whilst doing an early morning run, when on a work conference at a winery in rural Victoria.

What do your friends think of your running?

I think they respect that I have the discipline to do it and are a bit bemused when I do really small runs just to hit my weekly target (aiming for 1200km this year). My wife thinks it’s a good excuse to then have coffee/ beers afterwards.

What do you do with your clothes immediately after you get home from a run?

Under strict orders from my wife, straight into the washing machine!

What’s the one thing you wish you’d been told before you started running?

Just how important it is to get a proper pair of running shoes, that is ones that suit your running style and then not to wear them out before you replace them.

Thanks for sharing Simon glad you didn’t get into a fight with a kangaroo, and did you ge beaten by the guy with the fridge in London?

April Fools' Pranks for Endurance Athletes and Fitness Fanatics

Last week my dog ate my shoe, honestly a true story. She was punishing me for ignoring her during a particular long work meeting I was on when we would have normally been playing tug-o-war with her.

However it got me thinking about April Fools day and wondering what sort of pranks can you or could you play on your running buddies on this, the most fun day of the year.

Naturally I went and did some research, and found an article on funny things you can do or can be done to you, as a runner. Of course, we can go too far, so whatever tricks you play, remember they are your friends and you do want them to remain your friends.

Thanks Chris for sharing and I thought the ‘dog ate my shoe’ story was just a way for you to get out of coming and doing a half marathon with me the other morning.

Well that’s a wrap for another week.

Remember to take care of yourself and others, and a have a fun and safe long weekend.

Happy Easter,

Steve
