Greetings KRew
After a year of build-up, the many thousands and thousands of kilometres run by the KRew in training, it all comes down to this Sunday. Everyone is excited to be part of this the first ever marathon major in the Southern Hemisphere. It will be exciting to watch 35,000 runners sweep down from North Sydney across the Sydney Harbour Bridge and into the city. For those cheering on the side lines or one our official volunteers will have the thrill of watching the best marathoners in the world as they head out for the 42.2km. For those of running on Sunday look out for the KRew supporters with the KR Flags who will be on the course cheering us all along. Cheer like crazy!
Tonight, we have our pre-marathon KRClassic shake out run. We will stick to the classic course but will need to be careful around the opera house and botanic gardens.
Friday night we will have a pre-marathon pasta party at Anchor Café and Restaurant from 6:30pm on Friday 29th August. 118 Alfred Street South, Milsons Point. Come along join the excited KRew for a bit of carb loading before the big day. Even if you are going to events at the Opera House at 5:30pm, you are welcome to join us later and share the excitement of the marathon party.
Post the race on Sunday come and join all your friends in the KRew for the KR Post Marathon Party at the Lord Nelson in The Rocks, we have a table booked from 1pm but if you get there early I’m sure they can get you in so come along and join us to celebrate post your race.
For KR10k we will have the traditional Marathon Medal Monday on 1st September, and Marathon T-Shirt Thursday at KRClassic on Thursday 4th September.
To celebrate all the achievements of the KRew both those who ran, those who volunteered and those who supported we will hold the Post-Marathon BBQ at Chinaman’s Beach on Saturday 13th September.
Then on 11th October we will hold the Biennial KR Wine Tour. This event is only $70 for the bus and is limited to 40 people. So be quick and let Luzaan know if you are coming and she will put you on the list. (See event invite.)
A lot of fun and excitement coming up for the KRew, and doesn’t stop there, shortly I send out a save date for the annual KR Christmas Party for 2025 – stay tuned.
Still Time to be an Official Marathon Volunteer
If you sadly missed out on a place in the official for Sydney marathon, or was never planning to run it anyway but would like to be part of the excitement, then this is for you. Please speak to our volunteer coordinator Florence, or me and we will get you started.
KR has a long history of providing official volunteers for Sydney Marathon and everyone who has ever done it has always talked about the experience in glowing terms. So far we have 10 good folk from the KRew who have put there hand up, so join them for a great day at the marathon.
KR turns 20 in 2026 – Entries Closed
To celebrate our 20th Anniversary some of the very talented KRew has put together some designs and at the moment, we are putting a short list together and will present the top ones to the club for you to have a say in which design we go with.
Upcoming Events
Next KR long run is yet to be confirmed but save Sunday 21st September. See Tully if you want to help out with one of the distances on offer.
Upcoming Races
Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)
Bare Creek 20k Trail Race (ENTRIES NOW OPEN) will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. This year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Garrigal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au
For a friendly, low pressure local race series that is very reasonably priced, has various distances on offer and held is some of the most scenic parts of Sydney, check our Sri Chinmoy. https://au.srichinmoyraces.org/sydneyraces
Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!
If you want to find some races for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. If you find a race that has a KR Team and needs a code let me know. Or if you are the first KR to sign up for a race, please create a KR team and let me know.

Tuesday Speed Sessions these are held every Tuesday at the place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. All Welcome! See you there!
If you are bringing bags tonight, Trevor will be there with his car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Trevor much appreciated!
That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself, and if you can, others.
Keep running @everyone and happy trails,
Steve
