Greetings KRew

After taking a break over Christmas KR Long Runs are back for 2025. The KR Long Runs will be held on the 3rd Sunday of every month, only taking a break if they conflict with a major race.

Long runs are an important part of any training program teaching your body how to run for long periods of time, distance. and most importantly how to recover. Below are a couple of links about long runs and why they are important, how fast and far to run, the importance of hydration and nutrition and of course recovery.

This month the KR Long Run host Tully assisted by Trevor and Melvin, has 3 options for the run, with a 30k, 20k and 10k. We will be meeting at the usual KR gathering place at 7am on this Sunday the 19th. (For more details see the invite on our FB Page.)

Upcoming Events

The next KR Social Event will the 3rd Annual RunDrinkRepeat Games incorporating the KR Beer Mile. This year we have invited our friends from NRG to join us for the challenge to see which club can down the beers, whilst running a mile. Defending champion Brian and is offsider Mark are planning a great afternoon and will be hosting.

So, if you fancy your chances come along for the fun at Andersen Park in Neutral Bay on 22 February at 2pm.

If you don’t want to run the beer mile, then come along and cheer the brave KRew on as they take on this gruelling event.

Upcoming Races

Many local and Australian 2025 races are now open for registration and if you think you will run any of them, I encourage you to sign up straight away as they will sell out. (Both Gold Coast marathon and half marathon, along with Melbourne marathon have already sold out.)

Sun Run on 1st February, is always a great way to kick off the year of racing with a quick 10k dash from Dee Why to Manly. Currently over 90% full so get in quick so as to not miss starting the year with a great race.  https://www.sunrun.com.au/

Canberra Marathon 2025 registration is now open. I’m expecting a big contingent of the KRew will be heading to Canberra for this beautiful Autumn Day run through our Nation’s Capital. https://solemotive.com/pages/canberra-times-marathon-festival

The Hoka Half in May is now sold out, so if you missed out consider becoming one of our official volunteers or coming down and support the KRew running this iconic event. https://runawaysydneyhalf.com.au/

City to Surf, this year will be 10th August, just a few weeks before the Sydney Marathon and will be a great last fast race before the main event. Stay tuned and we will let you know when registrations open for this as it will sell out quickly. https://city2surf.com.au

TCS Sydney Marathon, has been moved to 31st August and the ballot entries have now closed and entries confirmed. If you missed out, consider becoming an official volunteer or coming down and supporting the KRew.

Bare Creek 20k Trail Race will be held on 2nd November. In KR I know we have a lot of trail runners, those who think that spending the day out on the trails running mountains and fording streams is the only way to be free. But as a club we haven’t really supported any of the many trail races that are on around Sydney. So this year I hope we can get a big contingent of the KRew up to Acron Oval to take on this beautiful course in Garigal National Park. https://barecreektrailrun.com.au

Of course, there are many races throughout the year that the KR will do, such as those out at Sydney Olympic Park and around the foreshore. We will highlight as many we think of, but if you have one to promote you think the KRew will love, let us know!

If you want to find some for yourself, I highly recommend using The Running Calendar website which lists just about every race in Australia. https://www.runningcalendar.com.au/

Tuesday Speed Sessions are back, and we had the first session for 2025. 10 of us were there on Tuesday to put in some sweat and hard work to get our fitness up ready for the season and enjoy encouraging each other. These sessions, led by either me, or Scott are held every Tuesday at the usual place Gore Hill Oval at 6:30pm. See you there!

If you are bringing bags tonight, Evelyn, we will be there with her car to hold them whilst you run. (But please pick them up as soon as we have finished the run!) Thank you, Evelyn, very much appreciated!!

That’s a wrap for this week; remember to take care of yourself and others.

Keep running @everyone and happy trails,

Steve
