Highland Neighborhood General Meeting

  • Date: March 20, 2024
  • Time: 7:00 PM
  • Attendees: 11 residents in person, 3 via Zoom, 4 from WSDOT, 1 from Sound Transit, and Council Member John Tymczyszyn

Key Points:

1.    Communication on Noisy Construction: WSDOT committed to notifying residents in advance of noisy construction, lane closures, etc. This has been observed on Nextdoor.

2.    Traffic Noise: Despite studies indicating no significant increase in traffic noise, Council Member John Tymczyszyn acknowledged resident complaints and pledged to follow up with WSDOT to explore mitigation measures.

3.    Traffic Concerns:

·        Proposed improvements for signage on 85th St, especially for the left turn onto 405 North.

·        Discussion on synchronizing traffic lights in close together.

·        Suggestion for WSDOT construction workers to not park near the future PUDO and/or "no parking signs" to allow for increased traffic on NE 88th St.

·        Discussion on the right turn onto NE 85th St from the 405-south off-ramp, including concerns about bumps and lane markings.

4.    Council Member Updates:

·        Swimming pool status: No new pool due to failed bond and survey indicating low likelihood of a new bond passing. Consideration of a cover for the Peter Kirk pool.

*Counil looking at other use for Houghton park and ride: Bike park/garden or two ice skating rinks.

·        New Transfer Station update.

·        Old Crescent Light store in Rose Hill to be developed into 250-300 townhomes.

·        Clarification: Google did not purchase Lee Johnson car dealer in Rose Hill.

·        No construction at La Quinta Inn (new homeless shelter).

5.    Meeting End: 8:45 PM.
